Over 300 years, 500,000 mercenaries fought, and 60% of them never returned home. After the victory at Marignano, “perpetual peace” concluded between the king of France and the Swiss confederation in Friborg (November 29, 1516). Under this, the Swiss rejected the infiltration of Milan and started an alliance with France.
