Kingston is home to Canada’s very roots and is a city with tons of history. 8. Merrickville

9. Almonte
The lovely mill town of Almonte lies 52 km (32 miles) southwest of Ottawa. Nestled along the Canadian Mississippi, Almonte has an amazing waterfall, right in the heart of town. Start your exploration of Almonte by walking along the river and seeing the statue of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball who grew up right outside of Almonte. Do a spot of unique shopping in the trendy, chic shops or pick up a good book at Mill Street Books.

10. Westport
One of Canada’s most gorgeous small towns, Westport lies 120 km (74.5 miles) southwest of Ottawa. The descent into Westport provides fantastic views from Foley Mountain, while the town itself is nestled between Westport Sand Lake, Westport Pond, and Upper Rideau Lake. Stop at the wonderful, family-run vineyard just outside Westport before descending onto this tiny town.
Despite being a tiny town, Westport offers some of the best things to do outside of Ottawa. Head to the Cove, a centre for fun activities and dig into a delectable lunch. Lounge on the grass or in the pretty-as-a-picture gazebo in front of the idyllic harbour and watch the boats go by. Apart from the many restaurants, you can also check out the beautiful Foley Mountain Conservation Area and walk a short distance to the Spy Rock Lookout, for gorgeous views.
11. Beachburg
