While Manhattan is a must-visit destination, finding a cost-effective accommodation may be tough. A solution would be Astoria, Queens - a quieter neighborhood where you can go “home” for a good night’s rest. In Astoria, do check out Lauren’s apartment listed on Airbnb. The apartment is clean, spacious, and comfortable. Near the apartment, there are restaurants, supermarkets and bakeries. If you are planning to head downtown, Manhattan is a mere 15-minute ride away by metro from the nearby Broadway station.
Lauren’s place, located on the 4th level, is at the top floor of the apartment building, which means lesser noise from cars and passing crowd. Although the lack of elevator in the building presents an opportunity for a light workout, it can be physically challenging and should be taken into consideration should it be difficult for you.

Spacious room with a comfortable queen sized bed
Lauren has a spare room at her place for guests to stay. It is away from the main door and close to the toilet that you share with her. The room is spacious with a luxurious queen sized bed covered in soft sheets. There is plenty of personal closet space just outside the room or you can put clothes in the drawers of the large dresser. Lauren provides fresh sheets and towels through the time you are there.
Ample space for your belongings and work
In the room, there is a TV with Netflix and couch for 2 should you want relax in the room. If you need to get some work done, there are 2 chairs and a small table with enough space for a laptop or writing.
Full toilet with a bath
About 7 steps from the room is the washroom. It comes with a full bath, toilet, sink and cabinet. The washroom is shared with Lauren who is very respectful of her guests. It is always kept clean and it would be great if guests can maintain it as well.
A functional kitchen with basic condiments
Cooking is a great way to save money while you are in New York. Lauren’s apartment has a small but functional kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave oven, coffee maker and toaster if you want to whip up a meal. She is generous to share what she has, which relieves you from having to buy basic condiments like salt, pepper and other spices. Fresh food can be bought from the C-Town supermarket less than a 5-minute walk away.
Laundry can be done at the basement of the apartment. In New York, it is hard to find apartments with washers and dryers in them. So having one located just downstairs is convenient. The rates at 1.50 USD for a wash and 0.25 USD for a 10-minute dryer spin are cheaper than other launderettes as well.
Close to Broadway Metro Station, restaurants and supermarkets
The apartment is 3 blocks (a 5-minute walk) from the nearest metro station, Broadway station. The N and Q lines here take you straight to Midtown and Downtown Manhattan in 10 minutes. These lines will pass through key stations like Times Square and Herald Square, making transits to other lines convenient.
Around the neighborhood, there are cafes, restaurants, pizzerias, food trucks and bakeries that serve an array of cuisines like Greek, Japanese, Korean, Middle eastern and American. My favourite haunt is the King of Falafel and Shawrma food truck parked along the main street, just outside C-Town. Amazing gravy soaked meat on rice with crunchy spice infused falafels.
Look forward to warm hospitality from your host, Lauren!
Lauren is a great host to live with; giving guests a lot of privacy during their stay with her. She is quiet and hospitable; sharing what she has at the apartment and always contactable if you have any questions. She cleans and maintains the apartment regularly, making sure her guests are comfortable.
