A terrific budget option in the charming Burmese city of Mandalay, Garden Hotel is also in a convenient location for getting out and about and enjoying the city’s many delights. Rooms may be fairly basic, but they offer enough comfort for a pleasant few nights. Staff members are very friendly and helpful and the hotel has a few additional services and facilities that make exploring even easier. The hotel will accept payment in either Burmese Kyat or US dollars.

Here’s what you can expect from a stay at Garden Hotel, Mandalay:

Basic but comfortable rooms at good prices

The majority of rooms available at Garden Hotel are for two guests, with the choice of a double bed or two single beds.

If you are really trying to maintain a fairly tight budget, the cheapest room type has an electric fan and shares a bathroom with several other rooms. The price per night is 12 USD (approximately 15,800 MMK). With just a little extra cost, however, you can have a private bathroom. En suite double / twin rooms with an electric fan cost 17 USD (approximately 22,300 MMK) per night.

If you aren’t very good at sleeping in the heat, air-conditioned rooms may be perfect for you. A double or twin room with a private bathroom and remote controlled air-conditioning is 24 USD (approximately 31,500 MMK) for a night’s stay. For 26 USD (approximately 34,200 MMK) per night you could stay in a Superior Double or Twin Room.

Bathrooms have hot water and guests with a private bathroom (as opposed to shared facilities) will find a basic selection of complimentary toiletries.

All rooms have satellite TV. A large wardrobe provides plenty of space for storing your belongings for the duration of your stay.

Rooms are clean and decently-maintained. Don’t be surprised, however, if you have no view, as some rooms do not have windows. This is the most prominent difference between the standard and superior air-conditioned rooms – the more expensive rooms offer city views.

Furnishings in a Superior Double Room include a desk, a bedside table, a seating area, and a telephone, in addition to a wardrobe and double bed.

Inclusive breakfast, friendly staff, and viewing terrace

A basic breakfast allows you to start each day bursting with energy! Fill up on bread, eggs, and plenty of strong coffee before heading out for a day’s sightseeing and adventures.

A member of staff is available at reception around the clock. Members of staff are friendly and chatty, ready to help out with recommended activities and attractions in the city. You can also book a selection of tours with reception staff.

Despite the hotel’s name, it doesn’t actually have a garden! There is an upper level viewing terrace though where you can enjoy being outside without actually leaving the hotel. It offers good views of the busy streets below and some of the city’s interesting buildings and landmarks.

Rent a bicycle and go sightseeing!

The hotel has bicycles available to hire. Get peddling and head off to discover the city’s highlights! Of course, you could also walk the relatively short distances, or jump in a taxi for places a little further afield.

The large and historic Zegyo Market is around 300 metres from the hotel. The oldest market in Mandalay and mainly catering to locals, it is a fantastic place to experience the everyday life of Mandalay’s diverse population. You might also spot a great souvenir or two!

The gleaming Shwe Kyi Myint Pagoda is also just a short distance from Garden Hotel. Its unique design is exactly as it was on the day it was built, right back in the 1160s. The sweeping courtyards, gorgeous pavilions, ornate frescoes, and beautiful Buddhist statues and religious memorabilia make visiting Mandalay’s oldest pagoda a real treat.

Other attractions within easy reach of Garden Hotel include the revered Mahamuni Pagoda, Mandalay Hill, Mandalay Palace, Ein Daw Yar Pagoda, Mandalay Cultural Museum, and Kuan Yin Temple.

It costs around 5 USD (approximately 6,500 MMK) to rent a bicycle for a day.

Other hotel facilities for guests’ convenience

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, although the signal may be fairly unreliable in rooms farthest away from the reception area. A few seats are available in the lobby area where guests can also sit to use their devices with a more reliable internet connection.

Other facilities include laundry services, luggage storage facilities, and currency exchange services. Members of staff can assist with arranging car hire and the hotel has a large car park for guests to use.

Stay at Garden Hotel for a good location in central Mandalay and reasonably-priced rooms.
