This event has experienced changes over the years, but with one sole aim – hot air balloon celebration. First, it was known as the Freedom Weekend Aloft, then the Great American Balloon Fest for some years, still yet, the Balloons Over Anderson, and after associating with the Cancer Association of Anderson, it is now called the Hot Air Affair. Over the years, it showcases 100 hot-air balloons competing against each other and other exciting shows. The event also features fireworks, a dog contest, regional music programs, skydivers, and activities for the kids, including amusement rides. However, with the recent changes, the festival now happens in a new venue, Rocky River Plantation, in Anderson, with a secondary aim to raise funds for people living with cancer.
