Named after the European city by the same name, Berlin, Ohio, is a small town with an interesting little history. The city area is the oldest existing town in the area, having been established in 1816 by John Swigert, who was a native from Berlin, Germany. Having purchased land here with the intention of starting a town, he enlisted the help of another man named Joseph Troyer, who coincidentally was also from a place named “Berlin” in Pennsylvania. Knowing this, the name of “Berlin” seemed like an obvious choice for their new town. Afterward, many other early settlers here were of German or Swiss origin. Today, the town is home to the largest Amish community in Ohio, with 56,000 Amish in the area. If you’re in Berlin and are looking to spend some time shopping, check out these top flea markets near Berlin, Ohio

The Medina Flea Market of Collectables is the area’s oldest and probably most well-known flea market. Having started in 1977, the Medina Flea Market of Collectables was never meant to be as big as it is today, and it started its life simply as a meeting place for local collectors to meet and sell or trade things. Over time, everything from the goods to the attendees grew in size until it became the place people know and love today. Get everything like collectibles and antiques from a bygone era, one-of-a-kind furniture, and glassware. November through March has the market held indoors, and in the warmer months of April to October, there is an outdoor section as well.
