Located in the remote mountainous Indonesian village of Tretes in Pasuruan city, East Java, Foresta Resort has long been a well-known resort for its close-to-nature settings. Since the resort was opened in 1997, it has become one of the favorite getaways for city dwellers in the Surabaya’s region.

Enjoy a stay in the jungle at Foresta Resort hotel

Bungalows at Foresta Resort

Forget about the heat and the hustle and bustle of the city. Being surrounded by tall pine trees (more than 10 meters tall) and some other vegetation, Foresta Resort is the place for rejuvenation. You can enjoy the “back-to-nature” life in the cosy bungalow.

Bungalows with western architecture

Western architecture of the resort.

A bungalow with this kind of architecture in Indonesia is uncommon because it does not look Indonesian at all. The front stairs to the terrace area, the wooden walls with horizontal lines, the “inverted V” roof and the flowers and vegetation surrounding the bungalow, don’t these details remind you of one of the houses in a North American village?

The bungalow interior is pretty basic. The walls and ceiling are just plain white and the only decoration is the 32-inch plasma TV hung somewhere on the wall. However, don’t forget that the bungalow is surrounded by pine trees and there is a big window. From inside the bungalow, you can see the tall beautiful trees outside.

At night, the temperature may fall as low as 10 degrees Celsius. Although there is no heater inside the bungalow, there is a thick blanket you can use during the night.

Convenient parking space in front of your bungalow

Park your car near your bungalow.

Another interesting thing about this hotel is that guests can park their cars almost anywhere inside the area. There is no designated parking lot for your car and just like living in your own property, you can park your car right in front of your bungalow. If you are driving, you need not worry about the lack of parking space!

Good for a workout

Path to the bungalow

The bungalows are situated in a mountainous area. You do not need to go out of the hotel complex for a workout, as you can simply walk around the vicinity while enjoying the refreshing mountainous view. Trust me. You will get really tired after two or three walking sessions circling the hotel area.

Bonfire at the hotel

The bungalow prices range from 38 USD to 175 USD, depending on how many people the bungalow can accommodate. The largest bungalow can accommodate up to four families, as it has four bedrooms and bathrooms. If you stay in the bigger bungalow, you will also have the privilege of using the bonfire facility for free. Simply inform the hotel staff if you want to make bonfire for the night and they will prepare the wood for you.

Hungry? Plenty of food around for lunch and dinner!

Someone selling satay in front of Foresta Resort.

The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but you don’t need to go far from your bungalow for a delicious meal. There are some people selling satay (grilled bamboo-skewered chunks of meat served with sweet peanut sauce) and Chinese food in front of the hotel area. In the morning as early as 6am, there will be some women selling Indonesian food wandering around the bungalows. Simply raise your hand so that one of them can see you and come to your bungalow. Having basic knowledge of the Indonesian language will definitely be helpful, otherwise you can point at the food that you want to try.

Let the horse take you out of the hotel.

A horse ride for 4 USD

For 50,000 IDR (4 USD), you can take a 30-minute horse ride to the hotel’s surrounding area. It is a very safe ride, as the jockey will “walk the horse”, so even children can enjoy the ride too. This unique experience is highly recommended!

More than just a hotel stay

Does this hotel sound too good to be true? Trust me. You will not regret your stay here, as this is the only hotel in the area with jungle and western settings. Located at Jalan (street) Wilis 37, Tretes, this hotel will give you more than just a hotel stay experience.
