With a population of over 10 million people, the city of Bangalore is considered a megacity. Bangalore is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka in the southern part of the country. Widely considered to be the “Silicon Valley” of India because of its importance in the world of technology, Bangalore is also home to HAL. The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited group established a museum in the city in 2001 is the first museum of its kind in the country. Showing off different types of aircraft, engines, and aviation models, the HAL Aerospace Museum is a must-visit for any aerospace enthusiast. If you’re checking out the area here is a guide to HAL Aerospace Museum, Bangalore.

Take a tour

The museum is one of the best of its kind in the whole country so taking a tour of the grounds is an absolute must. The museum was established in 2001 to teach the public about HAL and everything they’ve accomplished over the last 60 years. The museum is separated between two halls of exhibition. The first hall displays charts and photographs detailing the growth of Indian aviation from 1940 until today as well as a “hall of fame” section showing off the best of Indian aeronautic engineering. The second hall displays various engines and details of how the planes work and operate. Engines from real aircraft are displayed such as MIG-21 and LAKSHYA pilotless aircraft.

Check out the displays and simulations

Once you’ve seen the pictures and displays of the aircraft why not actually take the chance to see them in person. Hal Aerospace Museum has a wide collection of helicopters, fighter jets, and miscellaneous airplanes. On top of that interactive displays of RADAR and air-traffic-control, simulations are open to the public as well. If you fancy yourself as the next top-gun you can try your hand at the flight simulator that mimics what it is like to fly through the skies in the aircraft of your choosing.

Hang out in the garden

Although not considered the major attraction here, their outdoor landscaped exterior is a kind of a hidden gem. After taking in all the displays inside, take a seat at their manicured rose garden, wander through the orchidarium or smell the growing flora at the herb garden, all of which are located on-site. Working displays on solar-powered systems teach the public about the functions and benefits of renewable energy.

The cafeteria serves small plates of Indian snacks such as samosa but mostly non-vegetarian delights such as barbecue chicken and awesome South Indian coffee and also tea.

Outdoor dining

Although not an actual restaurant, there is a wonderful little dining spot outside where people can sit back and relax under the trees and enjoy some food bought from inside the cafeteria or packaged food brought along.

HAL Aerospace Museum has a pretty great gift shop on-site that has some pretty fun things for people to buy if they are interested in aviation. Not only that but the gift store is also home to a model building and collecting hobbyist club.

Model planes

After seeing and marveling at all the beautiful planes and technology at HAL Aerospace Museum, why not pick up a model of your favorite aircraft to display at home. The models offered here are great for people who are into collecting or even just picked up as a gift for someone. The models are intricate enough for adults to enjoy building but also not too hard for kids to try. Model helicopters, fighter jets, and commercial aircraft are all for purchase.

RC helicopters

You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy the fun of an RC helicopter. These little remote-controlled aircraft are fun to put together and even more, fun to fly around. Pick up different models and test them out or get your favorite one and take it for a spin.

Extra charges for cameras are a possibility here including phones with cameras, so if you plan on taking pictures, there may be an extra cost associated with it. For access to the simulators, there is also a small fee included.

Space for kids

There is a small area for people with kids. The small amusement area for kids is located outside where some rides and a park are also available. There is a fish pond filled with colorful fish to enjoy. This area is good for those traveling with little ones who want to spend some energy outside.
