The starting point for Waihee Ridge Trail is near Kahekili Highway 340, down Maluhia Road. It is not as accessible via public transport, so getting here via car would be best. This is a rather challenging and steep hike, especially on the way down, where the trail tends to be wet and slippery. A good pair of hiking shoes and a walking stick will definitely be helpful hiking equipment to have. Do remember to pack sufficient snacks and drinks along so you’ll have energy to complete the hike. It takes about three hours to complete depending on your level of experience and fitness. Though it might be strenuous, the views you get at the top will be worth every drop of sweat!

2. Acid War Zone Trail
Acid War Zone Trail is an easy to moderate hike, with several sights and attractions along the way. One of the most popular sights would be Nakalele Blowhole and Light Beacon. This trail’s name was coined due to its erosion from wind and salt spray, which makes the rocky terrain rather uneven. Not to worry, as wearing a pair of closed-toe shoes with good traction will do the trick. The trail is rather short and can be completed in about one hour. It can be accessed from Light Beacon or Nakalele Blowhole. For families with young children, the terrain might be challenging, but a good view from the Light Beacon and Nakalele Blowhole can still be enjoyed.

3. Twin Falls Hike

Twin Falls Hike is a short and easy hike, perfect for families with children and even the elderly. The main star of this place would be the astounding Twin Falls. You might want to pack some swim gear if you’re planning to take a dip in one of the waterfalls. If you continue further along the trail, you will notice a sign stating that the rest of the trail is for more intermediate hikers, mainly due to the slippery and wet ground. However, as long as you have the proper footwear, the trek is still rather manageable, as there are other sights and waterfalls along this path that you can explore! The entire trail will take about half an hour to complete.

4. Hoapili Trail

Hoapili Trail is an easy trail as it is relatively flat and located at the end of Makena Alanui Road. However, you will still need closed-toe shoes as the path can get pretty rocky. Along the trail, you will encounter some sandy paths, lava rocks, and maybe even a few goats! On this trail, you can expect a coastal view. If you’re intending to go on a roundtrip, it can take up to four hours. Do pack loads of sunscreen, water, and a cap, as it is likely to be really sunny and hot.

5. Waihou Spring Trail

There are two ways you can go about Waihou Spring Trail. The first way is through a loop that is easy and great for families with kids or elderly. This route is about 2.9 kilometers (1.8 miles). The second way is to take a side trail that brings you to the springs, cave, and waterfall. This route is slightly more challenging, as it is rather steep and even slippery if the terrain is muddy. If you plan on taking this path, make sure to wear shoes with good traction and bring along waterproof gear.

6. Ke Ala Loa O Maui / Piilani Trail
Ke Ala Loa O Maui / Piilani Trail is of moderate difficulty, and the round trip spans across 4.8 kilometers (3 miles). The trail starts from the west of Wai'anapanapa State Park and ends at Kainalimu Bay. There is a trail for hikers to follow, but it can get quite muddy, so hiking shoes are recommended. Remember to pack loads of water to stay hydrated, as most of the route is not shaded and it might be hot. 7. Lahaina Pali Trail

Lahaina Pali Trail is a strenuous, eight-kilometer (five-mile) route from Maalaea to Ukumehame, with a high level of difficulty. It takes about four to five hours for a one-way trip, so do pack loads of snacks and drinks to stay hydrated and energized. There is an uphill stretch halfway through the route where the land is rocky due to the lava rocks. This trail brings you to the wind farm where there are gigantic wind turbines that are a sight to behold! The view of the island from the top is also a spectacular one that should not be missed. Considering the difficulty and length of this trail, it is best to start your hike early so that you can make it back before sunset.

It is of an easy to moderate level of difficulty and can be completed in about one to three hours depending on your level of fitness and experience.

10. Mahana Ridge Trail

It is a demanding, 32-kilometer (20-mile) roundtrip journey solely accessible on foot - no vehicles are allowed. It is important to pack hiking essentials as well as food and water. Long-sleeved tops and pants are recommended as there might be overgrown bushes that you need to walk through.
