Northern Hotel aimed to be the most contemporary accommodation in Montana when it opened in 1904. This hotel was the central social center of the area for more than 30 years until a fire broke out in 1940, and the establishment burned to the ground. Luckily, it was rebuilt. Rooms cost 2 USD nightly, a hefty price at the time. In 1989, an ambitious remodeling replaced the hotel’s 51 public guest bathrooms with 40 cozy rooms providing private baths.
Although the hotel has undergone an extensive renovation, it still maintains its original sturdy oak stairway and the towering pressed-tin ceiling.
