Denpasar may be further from beaches and Bali’s touristic areas, but there is a perk of staying here: being in the center of the island. Therefore, it is actually a strategic location to reach Ubud up north, Sanur to the east, Canggu to the west, and Kuta down south. This is also one of the main reasons why I live in this city.

This part of Bali offers you tons of affordable facilities such as accommodations and restaurants. Staying at a hotel like Hotel Warta Dua, with its strategic location and cheap rate, will save you a lot of money, especially on a long-term visit simply because of this reason.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. A good, cozy little place to rest your adventurous body (from USD 9)

In the beginning, Hotel Warta Dua was just a bed & breakfast accommodation. Most people stayed here for a cheap long-term visit during business trip or working holiday. Some stayed even longer, making it their semi-permanent residence. Only a few years ago, they built a new, more modern building in the front.

They did not tear down the initial bed & breakfast. Now, they have two parts of the hotel: a modern two-story building in the front and a traditional complex in the back. I’ve stayed in both types of rooms. I found them both convenient, but I prefer the new building for its newer furniture and better facilities. They will offer you a room in the new building first. The rooms in the back will be offered if you are looking for a cheaper rate or if there is no room available in the new building.

Your pick between cheaper price or better facilities

Of course the room rates are different for both types of room. The rooms have two single beds, a flat-screen TV with Indonesian and Asian channels, an air conditioner, and a dresser. Rooms have a daily cleaning service and free Wi-Fi available. The modern rooms are equipped with a hot and cold shower, while the back rooms only have cold shower. Also, the modern rooms have more power outlets.

The modern room rate starts from 180,000 IDR (approximately 13 USD). There is no room service for meals. But this rate includes a free buffet breakfast for two in the lobby area, in front of the 24-hour reception desk. The buffet menu includes Indonesian food, such as nasi goreng, mie goreng, and other dishes and hot coffee and tea.

As for the back rooms, the rate is not officially stated. You can ask for it at the reception desk. It pretty much depends on the season. The first time I visited this hotel was during the low season and I got one room in the back for only 75,000 IDR (approximately 6 USD). I had access to all the facilities only without breakfast included. When I came back during the normal or high season, one room was rated at around 150,000 IDR (approximately 11 USD).

Located on Jalan Cokroaminoto, one of Bali's arteries

Jalan Cokroaminoto has an important role in Balinese tourism and traffic. It connects important areas, especially in transportation. This is the road you pass when you are traveling north or to Bali’s main harbor, Gilimanuk. It also connects with Bali’s other main roads including Jalan Gatot Subroto and Jalan By Pass Sanur, which leads to Jalan By Pass Ngurah Rai towards the airport.

Hotel Warta Dua is located right on the big street. But it is quiet and peaceful enough, especially after dark. One of the reasons it is quiet is because most people in Denpasar stay at home after 10:00 pm. It is a part of their belief and tradition.

Where can I get food or save myself from midnight hunger if there is no room service at Hotel Warta Dua? No need to worry. There are plenty of establishments you can choose from within walking distance from this hotel. Right next to Hotel Warta Dua, there is a local eatery serving Padang food, which is similar to Indian cuisine. And it is definitely filling for both lunch and dinner, or in case the hotel’s buffet breakfast does not suit your taste buds. The eatery opens from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. One dish with meat or fish curry and veggies is only around 20,000 IDR (approximately 1.5 USD).

Walking further north, less than five minutes away, there is another local eatery offering a larger menu and cozier atmosphere. It is called Warung Bu Kris. It is well-known for its cheap nasi pecel or rice with cooked veggies and peanut sauce, which is only 15,000 IDR (approximately 1 USD).

If local food is not what you are craving, there are international food chains such as KFC, Pizza Hut, J-Co and supermarkets in less than a one kilometer (approximately 0.6 miles) radius from the hotel. Both local and online taxis are available in this area. Or you can rent a motorbike for 50,000 IDR (approximately 4 USD) a day. You can ask the receptionist to help you rent one.

Affordable hotel in a strategic location: Hotel Warta Dua, Denpasar

Yes, you will not be within walking distance of the beach. Yes, there are no nightclubs or bars around. But staying in Denpasar is worth the budget and saves you on time when it comes to exploring Bali. This tropical paradise is not just about its tropical beaches. There is more to it for you to explore from north to south and east to west. And Denpasar is right in the center of it.

Denpasar has a lot more to offer. Staying in Hotel Warta Dua, you are only 30 minutes away from one of Bali’s biggest temples, Pura Taman Ayun. You are also within walking distance from Ubung bus station. And I recommend you to go on a culinary adventure in this part of Bali to local eateries like Jebak: Jejak Bali Kuliner and Gula Bali The Joglo.

So, next time you are in Bali, consider Denpasar and Hotel Warta Dua for both overnight or long-term stay for its affordable price and strategic location!
