Many of these eateries serve fresh fish and seafood dishes, as well as traditional South Indian entrees and Kerala specialties, including dishes like Kerala-style spicy crab, vegetarian curries, and meat biriyanis.

What to pack

For a great day at the beach, don’t forget to bring items like beach towels, sunscreen, and sunglasses. You can also bring food and drinks with you, and enjoy a wonderful picnic on the warm shores of Kannur beach. You should also carry some money with you to buy refreshing snacks or beverages from the vendors and shacks on the beach.

When to visit

To avoid monsoons, the best time to visit Kannur beach is from October through March. The beach is fairly quiet throughout the week, but it’s best to avoid visiting on holidays and weekends if you wish to avoid large crowds. Many visitors enjoy a trip to the beach in the evening time to enjoy the beautiful colors of the sunset, but Kannur beach is great to visit at any time of the day.

By car

There are several parking lots available near Kannur beach, with most being located near Payyambalam beach. The Payyambalam beach car parking lot is free of charge.

By bus

Kannur beach is accessible by public bus. From the Kannur Thavakkara town bus stand, it is a nearly 2 mile (3 km) ride to Payyambalam beach.
