Richmond is Virginia’s capital city and is one of the oldest cities in the United States, making it chock full of history. Between 1609 and 1611, it was settled by English colonists. It was an important site during both the Revolutionary War and the American Civil War. Today, it’s home to more than 200,000 people and offers plenty for its visitors to explore. Being such a historic city, it’s no surprise that Richmond is home to lots of museums. Learn more about the Civil War at the Richmond National Battlefield Park, or check out the paintings at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. If you like music, you can catch a show at the Richmond Symphony or the Virginia Opera. There are also plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, including walking along the James River or strolling through Monroe Park. And Richmond is also known for its excellent food culture.
