San Francisco is a city in northern California, spread over a hill and overlooking San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The city is well known for its iconic Golden Gate Bridge, colorful Victorian houses and cable cars. Alcatraz Island sits out in the bay, which is the site of a former and notorious prison, which can now be visited by the public. Visit Fisherman’s Wharf with its souvenir shops and food stalls where you can buy seafood dishes and snacks. There are also a number of boutiques and restaurants in the charming Ghirardelli Square, a former chocolate factory.
