When talking about an icon of Bali, you must agree with me that Tanah Lot Temple is truly the one. There must be some reason why the temple is used on so many postcards and t-shirts of Bali, and one reason must be its utmost beauty and exoticism you can’t find anywhere else on earth. Located on a natural rock formation off the main island (you can call it a tiny island), this unique Hindu temple is a must visit destination in the island. So, when you are in Bali, wouldn’t it be great to stay in a luxurious and peaceful resort very close to the iconic temple? Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali can turn this into a reality.
The view of Tanah Lot Temple awaits you
Being situated on a clifftop overlooking the Indian Ocean, this 103-hectare resort (254.23 acres) is only about 200 meters (656.17 feet) from the famous Tanah Lot Temple, and it is indeed a dream resort for almost every vacationer in Bali.
Not only does it provide you with many acres of green landscapes and freedom from the noise of tourist activities, it also offers you a superb view of Tanah Lot Temple and the vast Indian Ocean behind it. Since it is located right by the shore, you can even see people doing their rituals at the temple and you can expect the perfect sunset and breeze!
What a gorgeous view this resort offers! Nevertheless, that is not the only surprise you will find at this resort, as more surprises are waiting for you!
Lavish room
As a 5-star resort, its well-furnished and spotlessly clean rooms come with amenities like bottled water, a well-stocked mini bar (look out for Bintang Beer, an Indonesian beer), extra large LCD TV (42 inches / 106.68 cm) and 24-hour free Wi-Fi.
Each room has a choice of a king or twin-sized bed, and if you stay in a suite (it costs 295 USD / 3,923,179 IDR for the Pacific Club Suite Ocean Room), you will have a big living area and 2 balconies, where Tanah Lot Temple is visible from both balconies! On your first day, you will receive a complimentary welcome fruit platter delivered to your room. Bed sheets are changed and an English newspaper (Jakarta Post) is delivered daily.
Each of the well-furnished and spotlessly clean rooms comes with a choice of pool, golf course or sea views from its balcony (I chose the sea view to have views of the temple) and since this is a large resort with abundant open spaces, the room is also equipped with an umbrella, which is handy for rainy weather (the monsoon season normally comes in April and ends in October each year).
Enjoy your bath
The en suite bathrooms are sparklingly clean and each comes with amenities such as hair dryer, bathrobes and slippers. Interestingly from inside the bathtub you can watch TV as there is a large window by the bathtub connecting to the bedroom, and amazingly if you open the curtain, you will be able to see outside right from your bathtub!

Perfect buffet at Merica
The breakfast buffet (included in the rates) is available at Merica Restaurant. It’s an open-air restaurant, which offers more than just good food. The picturesque scenery and the breeze off the Indian Ocean, together with the magnificent view of Tanah Lot Temple from the restaurant will make it one of the best dining experiences of your lifetime!
Merica serves a wide selection of Asian and Western foods, from the popular Indonesian savory oxtail soup (sop buntut in Indonesian), omelettes and pastries, to assorted sushi (they have fresh tuna and salmon) and fried noodles.
If you have a hard time telling your kids to eat fruit, you won’t at Merica. They have a kids corner where they can enjoy colorful ‘fruit kebabs’ (skewered fruits), where chunks of fruit, like watermelons, papayas, pineapples and grapes, are skewered together on sticks.
Several other dining options are available, including Driftwood, which serves great grilled seafood. Also, check out the resort’s weekly special events, which includes a live music performance by a band called ‘The Vibe,’ played by a vocalist and a pianist at Sunset Lounge Bar every Monday to Wednesday.

Pool with different themes
This resort has several swimming pools, and each has very unique concepts. One of the pools has a Balinese temple theme, as in here you will feel a sort of mystical aura of Hinduism. The pool has walls with artsy stone carvings of the mini shrines like what you can see in many houses in Bali, and uniquely there is water coming out of each of the shrines. The stone gate in the middle of the pool resembles an entrance of a Hindu Temple, guarded by a couple of mystical creatures that look like dragons.
Fun-park-themed pool
Another pool has a family theme. This may be the only resort that provides a family-friendly swimming pool with twin 54-meter (177 ft) long slides, and the good news is these slides are big enough for kids in their 30s to slide through. This pool is going to make sure that you and your family will have fun together!
Resort-themed pool
Another pool is located by the ocean. There are several loungers by the pool for guests to use and there is nothing better than spending your time here while watching the sunset and sipping a cocktail you can order from the Drift Bar (located in the pool area), and if you haven’t tried a local beer, order a Bali Hai Beer, which has a hint of lime!
Fun kids activities
Bringing kids with you? No sweat, as the resort has a kids club that will keep your children busy most of the day, from 9 AM to 6 PM. Activities (charges apply) range from badminton, fish feeding to movies. If you stay here anywhere between June and December, your kids will have the chance to release baby turtles back to the sea!
Day-in activities
Staying at Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali means you can opt not to leave the resort throughout the day. Choose from numerous options such as swimming, working out in the gym and watching the sunset are surely great activities. Also, you can take a guided tour walking through the surrounding rice fields, or spend your time or playing in the resort’s world-class golf course, designed by the famous golf course designer Greg Norman.
Shuttle service
This resort is about an hour away from Kuta, but a daily shuttle to the area is provided for free by the resort (shuttles to Ubud area are also available, but charges apply). It provides 2 buses, leaving at 9 AM and returning at 2 PM (otherwise guests can take a taxi back to the resort). So, what are you waiting for? This is a perfect luxury resort for families that will make you not want to leave!
