Vasto, much like the rest of Italy, is full of rich history, great food and amazing places to see and discover. It’s a town on the Adriatic coast and has had several names, throughout its history. Called Istonio under fascist rule, by 1944 is was renamed to Vasto. According to legend, the town was founded by Diomedes, the Greek hero, and archaeological surveys done in the area have found relics dating back to at least 1300 B.C. Under Roman rule, the town was said to be flourishing and opulent, in fact, much evidence of this can be found by the existing remains, such as the Roman theatre, public baths, statues and mosaics.

The town of Vasto is a great, underappreciated spot for tourists visiting Italy. It has a ton of history but is still a beautiful, modern town, with great beaches. If you find yourself in Vasto, or if you’re thinking about checking out some of the lesser-known spots around Italy, here’s a few great places to stay.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on February 01, 2024.
