Izukogen is one of the most popular destinations for those living in Tokyo to take a day or a weekend getaway trip. It is only two hours by train from Tokyo, thus many people both young and old visit Izukogen to enjoy marine activities, seafood, rich green nature, and of course, hot springs. Izukogen no Yu, is a hot spring, which is open to any visitors as well as locals. It is only 5 minutes on foot from Izukogen train station convenient location and affordable, you get to enjoy a hot spring as long as you wish.

Izukogen no Yu is a hot spring open from 10:00 am to midnight daily. It is 1,000 JPY (8 USD) for adults and 800 JPY (4 USD) for children. Because of its great accessibility, it is always crowded during the weekends and high season: his area is famous for marine activities so it is always busy during summertime and national holidays. However it is not so crowded on weekdays, especially in the early in the morning.

If you are traveling by train, you can get off at Izukogen station and walk to the hot spring: it only takes 5 minutes! If you are driving, Izukogen no Yu is along the National Highway 135, so it is a great hot spring to stop by if you need to relax and extend your legs after driving for a few hours. You cannot miss the big sign of a lady with a mud pack along the road.

Enjoy hot spring in the rich green of Izukogen

At Izukogen no yu, you get to enjoy 6 different kinds of baths, as well as free mud packs and sauna. One of the baths is inside, but the rest is outside in the luxurious nature of Izukogen. If you are lucky, you might be able to bathe while admiring wild squirrels, which jump between the branches in the outdoor area. If you are not in the rush to travel to your next destination, you can easily spend an extra few hours at the facility after your bath. It is because Izukogen no Yu provides a large relaxation area where you can just sit or even lay down to watch TV or get a massage. You can pick a manga from a large collection, available for free. Some people even spend the day there! There are also free and paid massage chairs, as well as massage therapists on site, if you want to treat yourself a little more. After reading a manga, you are free to get back and relax in the hot spring as long as you like.

Are you hungry after your bath?

Right next to the hot spring building, there is a restaurant where you can enjoy Izukogen local beer and seafood. If you take a ticket from the hot spring, you can get a little discount like a free drink with your meal. The price is reasonable. You can get a decent lunch for 1,000 JPY (8 USD). If you want to treat yourself a little more by getting sashimi (raw fish) and other fresh seafood though, it will cost you a little more. After eating if you decide to go back into hot spring, you just need to show your ticket to hop in the hot spring again.

Relax and be with nature!

Izukogen is a popular tourist destination, but it also is a major passing point for those traveling further down South or West Izu Peninsula. Izukogen no Yu is an ideal place where travelers can take a little break to relax before continuing their journey. If you are lucky, Izukogen no Yu even have an outdoor area where you can lay down in a hammock to relax even further after enjoying a nice hot spring. They have improved their facility in the recent years that for those who might need to do a little bit of laundry on your trip, there is a coin laundry in the facility as well.

Reasonable price and satisfying hot spring experience

If you are one of those people who love hot springs and want to try a couple of them during your trip to Japan, it is a great place to stop by. This is not a hotel, so you cannot stay here, but many travelers use this facility before or after getting to their hotel, to experience more than one hot spring on their trip to Izukogen. This location is also very well connected so if you have time, definitely try eating at the restaurant or pick up a souvenir to share your experience with others.
