8. See the historical side of Augusta at Sacred Heart Cultural Center

Built by Jesuit priests in 1898, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, now the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, first opened its doors to the Catholic worshippers in 1900. It is now considered as one of the greatest architectural masterpieces not only in Augusta but in the whole of Georgia. In fact, it is already listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is known for its towering twin spires, intricate arches, 15 different brickwork styles, 94 stained glass windows, a barreled vaulted ceiling, and meticulously carved Italian marble altars. Today, the former church is one of the most sought venues for weddings, concerts, and even movies. There are also several tours that take place every day.
