1. Monkey Forest Road
Ever wondered what it is like to go shopping while surrounded by monkeys? To be honest, we hadn’t spent too much time thinking about it until we heard of the now infamous Monkey Forest Road. This road leads to a Sanctuary which is at the heart of Ubud. The monkeys are grey long-tailed macaques and this one-way street is part of their home. From the start of Monkey Forest Road, you can see rows of shops and stalls from boutiques to outlets lining either side of the street. You’ll find anything on Monkey Forest Road, from local crafts to a two-story surf shop.

2. Sukawati Art Market
To many, this is considered Bali’s longest running art market. Since the 1980’s, people have been coming far and wide to purchase distinctively Balinese artworks. You can expect to find many handcrafted items made from wood and materials. We love shopping here because there is a great mixture of tourists looking for something special and locals picking up daily items for their own homes. This popular spot is also often visited during tours of the city, so scope it out on a tour and come back later to grab a bargain.

3. Ubud Art Market
Another great spot for sourcing local art is the Ubud Art Market. Alongside the artworks and local handicrafts, you can find beautiful accessories from homemade silk scarves to bags and hats. We love Ubud Art Market because you can rest assured that a large proportion of the items sold here are made by locals in nearby villages. It has an authentic feel. It is also worth noting that this market, generally, tends to showcase more exquisite local pieces and so, in some instances, will be more pricey than other local markets nearby. You’ll pay a bit more for the extra quality.

Thanks to its location just north of the main Ubud hub, Tegallalang Handicraft Center is surrounded by many blossoming industries which all come to the Handicraft center to sell their wares. Not only can you enjoy shopping in what feels like the longest row of art shops in the world, but you can also enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We particularly love the specialist jewelry shops which can be found along this stretch.
