The history of Zenkoji Temple dates back to 642 AD when Yoshimitsu Honda enshrined the oldest Buddhist statue in Japan. Today, it serves as one of the most important temples in the country, attracting thousands of pilgrims and devotees worldwide.

Guests here can expect a peaceful stay in any of the 39 temple lodgings, several of which offer overnight accommodations. Feel free to take part in the daily morning prayers called Oasaji, where a solemn ceremony is usually held and attendees can receive blessings from a top priest or priestess. Other notable activities you’re welcome to participate in include ‘goma’ prayer (fire ceremony), 'shakyo’ (sutra copying), or 'zazen’ (seated meditation).
