Florida, United States, is known as the sunshine state. It is located in the southeastern region of the United States. Florida holds the honor of being the only state that borders both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Tourists flock to its many white, sandy beaches. While visiting Florida and some of the places mentioned here, be sure not to forget to take home some fun souvenirs. Here are some of my suggestions:

1. Mouse Ears from Disney World, Orlando

Who doesn’t love the happiest place on earth? Mouse ears, which include a Mickey Mouse Ears Hat or Minnie Mouse Ears Headband are must-wear attire at the theme park that you can buy at many stores in the Magic Kingdom. If you want to go all out, head over to the Art of Disney store in Downtown Disney, Le Chapeau on Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios at Edith & Adrian’s Head to Toe shop or Mouse Gear in Epcot to buy mouse ears that can be monogrammed or embroidered with your name on it. Did you know mouse ears are one of the most recognized Florida souvenirs ever?

2. Blue Angel Survival Bracelet from Pensacola

With this bracelet a life can be saved with only the flick of the wrist. This is a great way to remember the Blue Angels air show. Who are the Blue Angels? They are the United States Navy’s flight demonstration squadron, with pilots both from the United States Navy and United States Marines. Their air show is one spectacular show that is not to be missed. As for the souvenir bracelet, it can be found at the National Aviation Museum, in the town of Pensacola, Florida. The bracelet is great in an emergency since it can be used for a lashing, tourniquet, shoelace, snare, tying splint, or even as a fishing line and sewing thread if you want to take out the threads.

3. Sponges from Tarpon Springs

It was a thriving sponge diving industry that built the city north of Tampa, known as Tarpon Springs, a big Greek community. The historic, working sponge docks in downtown Tarpon Springs are surrounded by Greek restaurants and bakeries and are quite popular. The Greek culture is quite active here. There is a Greek Independence Day parade held in Tarpon Springs on Greek Independence Day. Be sure to get a locally-harvested loofah and some natural sea sponges at one of the many shops here.

Not just for kids, but also for the young rocket scientist within all of us, this authentic and fun toy astronaut helmet is equipped with real sounds and buttons. Be sure to get one on your way out after you are done exploring the Shuttle Atlantis, riding the Shuttle Launch Experience inside the center and of course, taking a bus tour to see an actual Saturn V moon rocket in Titusville.

5. Sandglobe

This is not your traditional snow globe. It is what is called a sand globe and it captures the true spirit of the state of Florida. When shaken, sand falls down around the beach scene of your choosing. Get one for yourself and pick up some for gifts for others. It is unique and people will love it. This is one of those souvenirs that you can pass down for generations.

6. Alligator jerky

Florida is quite famous for its alligator population, so this is a great Florida souvenir. Many people know of the world famous beef jerky, but not many have tried alligator jerky. It is not as exciting as it sounds, and those who have been brave enough to try it say it tastes like chicken.

7. Shell art

Editor's Note: There's no photo available at the time of writing

Thanks to the many beaches, shells are easy to find and collect. Many stores in Florida sell art made of shells. Some artwork you will find is really cute like a turtle made of shells, but other art like magnets made with shells will not last very long, so be aware when buying such things. They make really cool souvenirs as well as home décor. Shell art is something you will find in all kinds of stores around Florida.

8. Stuffed alligator head

Another fun and interesting Florida favorite is this souvenir. It is quite popular, so you will find this in many stores in Florida. By the way, here “stuffed” does not mean stuffed in terms of stuffed animals. This souvenir is not as cuddly and cool. But, who would not want to take home an actual alligator head? The alligator head is quite scary, so if you see one around, you will know it is from Florida. This souvenir will be a great reminder of your trip to sunny Florida.

If you happen to stop at one or more of the places mentioned be sure to check the above list and make sure you don’t miss getting a keepsake for yourself or someone you love. They will be very happy that you thought of them.
