You have finished your jungle tour, visited your shaman, completed your silent retreat and are ready to start making your way back to civilization. Or, you are about to head off for a totally inward journey deep in the Amazon. Either way you will most likely have to stop in Iquitos, an exciting, slightly hectic city in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. The bustle of the city can be distracting for those preparing for a shamanic journey. On the other hand the craze can be overwhelming for those returning. Naturally, you wonder, where will I stay in this wild city? The answer: The Amazon Within. This unique hostel provides visitors the perfect opportunity to integrate nature-fused jungle experiences with the bustle of the city.

Outdoor space
One of the best perks of this hostel is the amount of outdoor space! Walk out the doors of the dining space to find a covered patio perfect for sharing experiences with other guests. Past this outdoor patio you will find a garden perfect for meditation. Take off your shoes and ground yourself in the fertile soil of this beautiful jungle garden. Make a right through a little passageway and you will find a tiny pool with a deck. The pool is a perfect spot to relax and take a dip on a humid jungle afternoon. The deck around the pool has a little table, suitable for outdoor dining. Here you also will find a great space for some poolside yoga! This is not all. A tiny passage at the backside of the pool will lead you to a tucked away hammock hangout. The hammocks are integrated amongst beautiful plants, the perfect spot to look up at the sky and relax with nature.
Garden of Eden, a fully equipped kitchen
The Amazon Within’s beautiful garden is not only for show. The owners, Linda and Julio invite guests to incorporate the fruits of the garden onto their plates. Grab a starfruit and a guayaba to make a juice. Crack open a coconut and sip on the water, or turn the meat into coconut milk. Dig up some turmeric and make a tea. The abundance of edibles makes this hostel a Garden of Eden. Another perk is that the kitchen is fully equipped with a large variety of cooking tools, including a blender. Here you will be able to create your own dishes, integrating the flavor of the jungle directly from your backyard.
A family feel
The hostel is cozy and has a family sort of feel to it. Linda and Julio’s intention is to invite guests into their home, as they too live at the hostel and share the communal spaces with their guests. Everything from the art on the walls to the lockers were cultivated with the hands of Linda, Julio and their friends who have come through the hostel. The hostel fosters a feeling of community, and guests are often found playing games, sharing stories, exchanging music, cooking meals and creating art. Linda, an artist herself, is even open to offering sculpting classes for those interested. Linda and Julio’s message, “welcome to our home,” vibrates throughout the entire space.
A range of rooms for a great price: dormitories to singles
All of these amazing amenities are offered to guests for an extremely competitive price. In fact, The Amazon Within has the best prices for an accommodation of its class in Iquitos. There are three room options at The Amazon Within. The first is a six-person mixed gender dormitory for 16 PEN (5 USD) per night. In this room, each bed has its own locker, charging station and shelf. The second option is a three-person mixed gender dormitory for 18 PEN (5.5 USD) per night. This room has single beds and slightly more space than the first. Both of these dormitories share the same bathroom. If you are looking for more privacy, the hostel also offers a single economy room for one person for 30 PEN (9.50 USD) per night.
