Looking at a photo of the Inn at St Peters, one sees a haven set alongside sapphire-colored peaceful waters. Guests staying here are treated to crimson sunsets over St Peters Bay, a fortress of trees surrounding the property for privacy, and blue skies above. Located near Prince Edward Island National Park-Greenwich in the Points East Coastal Drive region, this inn is a winner, and we’ll tell you why.

Well-appointed suites

All of their waterfront suites are equipped with no-nonsense comforts like: air conditioning, private bathrooms, a seating area with a sofa to enjoy the view of the water, rocking chair, fireplace for chilly mornings and evenings, flat-screen TV, free wireless internet, mini fridge and a deck that overlooks the bay. Room choices include those with one or two queen-sized sleigh beds, or a four poster king-sized bed. In the bathroom you will find high-quality toiletries and they even give you bath salts for your warm bath after a day of hiking or biking!

You won’t want to miss breakfast in the dining room overlooking the bay. This excellent on-site restaurant is known for great food. Guests need to reserve a dinner place in the busy season to get in on a three-course meal for just 45 CAD (35 USD). Guests can choose from starters like, delicious pork spring rolls, local mussels in the flavor of the day, or entrées like traditional boiled lobster with veggies, roasted rack of lamb, or several other excellent choices. Many of the entrees come with local potatoes, tasting great due to a talented chef working with these high-quality spuds. The rich island soil makes potatoes and other veggies extra tasty from an abundance of iron and nutrients found on Prince Edward Island (PEI).

Tasty desserts

house made ice cream

Desserts are a good choice here if you have saved room. Their homemade ice cream is excellent as is the maple poached pear with ice cream. Maybe the peach, raspberry and cream cobbler will be your choice to end the meal? Guests can linger after dinner on their screened-in porch with a bay view, sipping a liqueur before heading back to their suite. Humming birds and other birds fly about the multitude of flowers the inn plants each year to entertain you while lounging on the screened-in porch. Many guests come to this area for bird watching and the Inn at St Peters is well located for them.

What's nearby

The Inn at St Peters is close to miles of scenic and safe cycling on the Confederation Trail - an old system of railroad beds converted to a multi-use trail for hiking, cycling, and more. If you need to rent a bicycle, the inn can help you choose one nearby. There are guided trips available on the Confederation Trail or you can go self-guided. If hiking is your preference, go for a beach walk at Greenwich Prince Edward Island Park. The park is only a five minutes’ drive from the inn and has an interesting visitor’s/interpretation center where you can find out about the park’s wetlands, dunes and forests, and the wildlife living there. You might even see some of the local wildlife, like a bald eagle or a curious red fox. It is important to note that walking on these fragile dunes is prohibited in most parts of PEI to help keep them intact. Climbing or walking on the dunes damages the grass and plants that hold the dunes in place. You can, however, walk on the beach and enjoy this place where red sand meets blue waters.

After your day out and about

cat lounging

Although there are many activities too numerous to mention, guests will find the grounds worth a walk too. Extensive landscaping shows off this haven well. In the early season, lilac bushes are waiting to share their heavenly scent with those who take time to smell the flowers. There is a gazebo near the water for a moment of peaceful contemplation of this quiet, outdoor area away from the busy lives guests leave behind. The inn also has two cats lingering about, and you can try giving them a rub or two when these felines aren’t busy patrolling their beat.

A fly in the ointment?

The Points East Coastal area is worth a visit and the Inn at St Peters is one of the best lodging choices for exploring this scenic region. The best time to visit is from July through September to take part in the seasonal activities in the area. Be aware that there are some mosquitos and other insects to protect yourself from in the summer, but on most days, wind and other conditions make the outdoors quite tolerable. Come see why PEI is gaining international recognition as one of the best vacation places anywhere, with their nature, food scene, history and friendly locals waiting for your visit.
