When Westin bought the two properties on the slope-side of Snowmass (part of Aspen’s four mountain resort), they envisioned a bright future. This newly combined property climbs up the mountain offering 254 rooms for all seasons at this high country hot spot. Completely renovated in 2012, the six month project produced a much-needed modernization of the former classic mountain hotel. The well-trained staff are ready to help with whatever is needed to make this a memorable stay from the moment you arrive at the Westin Snowmass Resort. Winter guests can have the valet service park their car for 35 USD per night and forget about driving for the rest of their stay. Self parking is available at a rate of 44 USD and is valid for up to seven days. Your skis or snowboards are whisked off to the ski valet area, ready for you when it’s time to hit the slopes at their convenient slopeside location just steps from the snow. After checking in, your bags will arrive to your room shortly after you do.

And the room choices are ...

Pinnacle room

Most rooms in the Westin Snowmass Resort offer excellent views of the slopes or surrounding mountains. Choose an Alpine or Pinnacle Room with 340-375 sq. feet / 27.9 sq. meters, or a junior suite with 450-475 sq. feet / 41.8-44.1 sq. meters, or the largest option, a one bedroom suite with a range of 700-740 sq. feet / 65-68.7 sq. meters. The rooms come with most anything you will need for a cozy stay, like in-room Starbucks coffee, humidifier, Aveda toiletries, and the Heavenly Bed. Soundproofing is sufficient to provide you with a peaceful night’s rest so you can attack the outdoor activities with gusto. And, what a choice you have at your doorstep! Skiing and snowboarding are the main events, but dog sledding is available also. In the summer, hiking and mountain biking are the main draws, but fishing and golfing are not far away. The Westin Snowmass Resort is pet-friendly. There is no extra charge for bringing your dog and they provide a dog bed, bowls, and poop bags. The only requirement is that you sign a waiver stating you will take good care that your dog doesn’t bark or damage the room.

When it's time to relax

Pool area

Whatever activity you come for, the onsite spa and hot pools will be calling you to unwind and relax after a spectacular day in one of Colorado’s best playgrounds. The spa is open from 12 pm to 8 pm daily, offering duet, stone, aroma therapy, tailored, or prenatal massages. Sinus relief treatments are available in the spa and at this altitude, combined with the dry climate you may want to partake of this service. Other treatments are: The Westin Tailored Body Scrub, Westin Mineral Soak, facials, and several package deals. Be advised that all spa treatments have a 20% gratuity tacked on to your bill at checkout unless you say otherwise.

Who's hungry or thirsty

Flatbread in Snowmass Kitchen

Onsite restaurants at the Westin Snowmass Resort offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Snowmass Kitchen puts out a mountain of choices, both cold and hot, on their breakfast buffet. The cold buffet cost 18 USD and includes hot oatmeal with six yummy toppings, plenty of breads and pastries, lox and capers, and the freshest blueberries, blackberries and strawberries I’ve seen on a buffet. The hot side of the breakfast buffet has the expected omelets, breakfast meats, and potatoes. When it’s time for lunch, try one of the delicious flat breads on the menu, or at night, indulge in one of their outstanding steaks. In the summer, they have an outdoor dining area to enjoy the mountain fresh air and view of the Roaring Fork Valley while you dine. The Vue Lounge is right next to the lobby area and features a splendid view of the slopes. Grab a warm drink in the winter and watch the late day skiers and snowboarders coming down just outside the bar windows while you are warm and relaxed. Casual dining is available in the Vue Lounge in case you are too comfortable to walk to the other restaurants.

The Double Black Noodle Bar is just a short walk away as is the Ranger Station for casual dining and mountain-style drinking. Snowmass has several other restaurants and bars that are accessible by foot or have the hotel shuttle take you there for free. The RFTA Bus is free and will take you all the way to the town of Aspen and back. It runs often in the winter, typically every fifteen minutes, but check with the concierge for exact schedules for the season you are visiting in. In the winter, the Four Mountain Bus will connect you with the other three ski areas throughout the day for free. With all the well-known restaurants and bars in Aspen, many Westin guests take the free ride. Be warned that at this altitude it takes less alcohol to catch a buzz and you want to feel your best for the next day’s activities, so pace yourself.

Fun for big and little ones at the Westin Snowmass Resort

The best time to visit in the winter is in February and March when the snow has accumulated a deep base on the slopes. It is more expensive this time of year, but the snow is most likely to be at its best. Some skiers, like me, love the great bargains and warm weather in late March and early April when the price of lodging drops by 50% or more off the season highs. In summer and fall, prices are usually significantly less than winter rates. Come on up and see the stars at night and blue sky during the day as you hike or bike one of the prettiest places in Colorado’s high country.
