Located just off Passeig de Gracia, in Barcelona’s city center, you will discover the façade of a building that looks like it is peeling the pages of a book. The Omm Hotel is the first hotel owned by the Grupo Tragaluz, a family owned group, that also owns 18 restaurants in Barcelona and Madrid.

Rosa Maria Esteva is cofounder of Grupo Tragaluz and owner of Hotel Omm along with her family. Rosa and her four children opened Hotel Omm in 2003 and expanded the hotel in 2006. Rosa and one of her children manage the hotel, two others manage other restaurants and one is an interior designer.

The interior atmosphere of reception and lobby is bright, warm, and welcoming. The cube sculpture in the reception area not only is designed to represent a Cyprus tree, but it is also dedicated to Rosa’s grandchildren.

“The Cypress tree in Spain is known as a welcome tree. In the past in remote areas of Spain people would have them on their property to let those lost know that they can offer them water, food, or shelter depending on the number of trees they had in front of their home,” according to Clementina, the PR manager of Omm Hotel. The sculpture started with seven cubes; however, two more are being added because Rosa is expecting two more grandchildren.

Many of the paintings inside the hotel were done by Rosa’s daughter and artist Carla. Several family friends and local famous artists have also contributed to the hotel’s art. This includes the table centerpieces and unique dishes in the Roca Moo Restaurant. Additionally, the artwork in the elevators was designed by Javier Mariscal. He was the creator of Cobi, a humanized Pyrenean mountain dog, the mascot of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

The hallways in the hotel are very dark. With black walls and black carpet, the only lighting is two strips along the outer edge of the floor. However, once you open the door to the rooms, they are modern bright and welcoming.

91 rooms are spread over 6 floors in the L-shaped hotel. With 58 king and twin Omm rooms, 16 superior rooms, 9 junior suites, 4 suites, and 4 suites with lounges, there is a room to suit everyone. The open and bright rooms have light neutral colors. They are modern and comfortable with oak parquet flooring, hand-woven rugs, ample storage for personal belongings, a mini bar, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The 100% Egyptian cotton sheets cover the Treka mattress that were designed by Rosa for the hotel. She also created the bathroom amenities with specific smells for the hotel guests.

Omm rooms start at 25 m² (269 ft²), junior suites are 50 m² (538 ft²), the suites are 60 m² (645 ft²), and the Paseo de Gracia Suite is 65 m² (700 ft²). The suites have a 4-poster bed, a very large bathroom, and extra seating area. The outer rooms have a small private balcony area due to style of façade of the building overlooking the busy streets below. The inside rooms have small terrace with green vine plants growing down for additional privacy and a view of the small grass courtyard.

The Hotel Omm has all the amenities a person needs. The spa, Spaciomm, is pure relaxation. Designed with soft lighting and natural stone, wood, yarn, and silk materials combined with relaxing aromas and music, it offers complete tranquility. The spa, with a complete list of treatment options, is open to the public every day.

A small gym is available for all your exercise needs. The hotel also has a hair salon, The Concept, on the same floor as the spa.

The hotel once had a night club in the basement but due to new rules and regulations it had to close. It is now only available for private events. There are also two meeting rooms available on the 6th floor with views of Barcelona.

The two clothing shops that can be found inside the hotel also extend through to the street of Passeig de Gracia. It is a very busy street full of shops and restaurants.

The rooftop terrace is a great place to see wonderful views of Montjuic, Casa Milà, and Sagrada Familía. A nice pool and lounge chairs are a great place for hotel guests to relax and cool off on hot summer days. The terrace restaurant and bar offers a nice selection of food and drinks. The food menu contains sushi items with select dishes from Roca Bar. The rooftop terrace is only open to hotel guests during the day. However, the public can enjoy the terrace every day after 7:00 pm.

Hello! My name is Perry, originally from the heart of Belgium, famed for its waffles and fries. However, it wasn't just the call of the Spanish sun that brought to Barcelona, but rather a captivating encounter with a German-Uruguayan beauty in Thailand. This led to the birth of our son in Ibiza, and eventually, more than two decades ago, I found myself in the vibrant city of Barcelona. My passion for meeting people from different nationalities and cultures, coupled with an insatiable appetite for adventure, has empowered me to transform ordinary days into extraordinary stories. In 2020, I embarked on a new journey by starting my own sightseeing company, showcasing the wonders of Barcelona to people from all over the world. With nine years of guiding experience in this magnificent city, I am thrilled to share its beauty and hidden gems with you.
