One of the best things about being on holiday is the change of scenery and a break from your day to day routine, which for me means getting up later in the day and staying up late and enjoying the evenings and nighttime of the country I am exploring. Cyprus, or the sunny island as I like to call it, has plenty to offer, especially at night. So read on for a little inspiration of what to do at night when visiting this beautiful island.

1. The Kyrenia Venetian Harbour
Kyrenia has a beautiful harbor and the castle next to it is sometimes called the “Jewel of Cyprus.” A visit here, especially in the evening, is simply delightful. The harbor is surrounded by restaurants and bars that have been developed from buildings that were once Venetian dwellings or carob warehouses.
The buildings have been very delicately modernized preserving their history. You won’t find loud music or night clubs here. The restaurants serve delicious, simple Turkish Cypriot cuisine with the emphasis being on locally caught fish. The Venetian tower, on the western side of the castle by the harbor entrance, is a veritable Aladdin’s cave of Turkish and Turkish Cypriot wares. Here you can purchase anything from a beautiful carpet or kilim to a simple Nazar (the evil eye) for good luck.

Beautiful day for a beer
Posted by The Wooden Pub on Tuesday, March 8, 2022
What better way to spend an evening than in a small and cozy pub located near the harbor, where you can chat with a loved one. This pub isn’t in a very crowded part of the city and it is close to the sea. What better way to enjoy your drink than to hear the sound of the waves in the background? This pub serves real ale.
There is also a large variety of bottled beers from around the world along with a decent selection of tap beers and ciders. If beer and ales are not your thing, then you will find cocktails here as well. All drinks are reasonably priced and always served with a smile. Take a gentle stroll one evening and head in for relaxation.

3. Famagusta's historic Old Town
The city of Famagusta is an outstanding example of medieval architecture, one full day spent in Famagusta will reveal the history of Cyprus in a nutshell. Visiting somewhere so rich and deep in history feels that extra bit special as dusk descends and that is the feeling most get when they step into Famagusta. This town has narrow streets to wander and explore and an old Catholic Church, which has been converted into a mosque. There is a tree dating back to the 13th century. If you want a peaceful evening, where you can relax, sip a drink and look at buildings rich in history, a visit here is a must.

Directly opposite the historic St. Lazarus Church in Larnaka is The Secret Garden Wine and Coffee Bar. There is a wide selection of wines, as well as local and imported beers, available both by the bottle and by the glass, though it is not a bar which focuses so much on the wide selection rather than the general atmosphere. If you are feeling a bit peckish, there is a good selection of snacks from simple toasted sandwiches to elaborate ciabatta sandwiches and their very own Secret Garden platter which could be enough to feed a whole family.
