Not many know but the city of Grand Prairie gets its name from the French language and it means big grassland. It is a city in Dallas County, Tarrant County, and Ellis County, Texas, in the United States of America. As you would expect from the name, Grand Prairie has lots of green spaces but also a lot more. From dazzling lights to rubbing shoulders with wax works to escaping towards nature, Grand Prairie has got it all. Read on for my list of best things to do when you visit.
1. Prairie Lights
Imagine driving through four million lights set along 2 miles (3 km)! This is what you will get when you come to the Prairie Lights. There are lots of displays in different shapes of trucks, animals and so much more! Half way through you can stop at the Holiday Village where you will find food and gifts. This really is a dazzling and unique experience, prefect to share with your loved ones.

2. Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

If you are looking for something strangely fun to do on your visit to this city then pay Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! a visit. This attraction is full of two headed animals, unique artwork and many hands on experiences. There are five fun-filled attractions and even a spinning vortex tunnel!
The fun and bizarre adventures continue with 12 galleries full of the strangest things you might ever see. The Louis Tussaud’s palace of wax has over 200 life-like figures of Hollywood actors and actresses. The Ripley’s enchanted mirror maze is endless passages, there are a few dead ends to trick you and lots of fun to be had. There’s even a 7D moving theater, which will tantalize all your senses!

3. Grand Prairie Premium Outlets
Grand Prairie’s Premium Outlets sell big brand names at small prices. It holds a collection of the finest brands for you, your loved ones and your home. You’ll need a few hours to see all the shops and then what better way to replenish all that lost energy then by a visit to the food court! Pay a visit and pick up a little something for yourself, or a loved one to remember Grand Prairie by.

4. Uptown Theater
The Uptown Theater is a fully restored 1950s theatre and performing arts center. If you like watching plays, musicals, or shows, then this venue should be on your list. This venue also hosts concerts, plays, musicals, theater camps, and even weddings!
This is a big theater but once you are inside you will feel as if you are one of a few people here, rather than being lost in the crowd. So come along and listen to great music, or lose yourself whilst watching brilliant acting.

5. Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie
For an evening of top quality, Verizon Theatre has a good selection on offer. Lights, great music, even better acoustics and an evening to create some fun and good memories. This venue is often described as a big place with an inviting and cosy feel. Mainly concerts are held here but it is worth checking their website for a full guide of what is on.

6. Loyd Park

Loyd Park is one part of a group of parks around Lake Joe Pool. This park has a public beach, where you can swim and enjoy laying on the warm sand. There is a picnic area and recently they have set up a volleyball area. To enjoy the experience of being on the water you can rent a kayak and paddle along scenic routes. This is a fun spot for the whole family, whatever your age. You can look out onto the water and fish as well.
Further into the park is the campground, a ramp area and hiking trail options as the park wraps around Lake Joe Pool. You do have the option of renting cabins here, (some face the water) if you want to stay here overnight or longer. Water, sunshine, nature and sand - a perfect combination for a peaceful and enjoyable few hours or few days!

7. Lone Star Park
To watch some horse racing and good entertainment, head to Lone Star Park. There are various levels of experiences you can enjoy at this location. The park is clean and there is a fun loving atmosphere in the air. There are also occasionally concerts after the races, you can always check before your visit to see if there are any on.
Some recommend reserving a table in Silks restaurant for the indoor, air conditioned experience, which can be enjoyed whether it rains or shines. You do need to reserve in advance to be sure to get a table (which is at least 4 seats). There is table service for food and drinks or a really good buffet, you can choose.

8. Lynn Creek Park
There won’t ever be a shortage of space here at this park, which has clean beaches for swimming and lots of picnic tables, some right by the water. There is also a playground, two boat ramps, and a sand volleyball court. There is plenty to do here for everyone - swim, read a book or just relax in your surroundings.
