Foggia is a place in Italy that’s unlike any other. For one, it is the best place to head over to if you love all things cheese, wine and olives. An interesting point to note is that there are many pasta factories operating in the township. The “granary of Italy” also resides here, in the plains of Tavoliere.

What would a tourist enjoy in Foggia, though? This atypical tourist location is rich in its historical aspects, with proof of human life dating back to the Neolithic periods. There are other notable places to visit to, including architectural masterpieces such as the Cheisa delle Croci and the Duomo. You could even embark on a walking tour around the historical city center. When you’re done, stop over at a cafe for a shot of espresso or a macchiato.

Here are 8 things you can do while you’re in Foggia, Italy!

1. Cattedrale di Foggia

This is the primary Roman Catholic building in the city of Foggia, which is said to have been constructed in the 1100s. The interior of the cathedral is a sight for sore eyes, with its walls decorated with a good number of vibrant religious artwork. The church also contains an icon that pays homage to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and is called Madonna of the Seven Veils.

If the weather’s fine and clear, this piazza is a great place to rest your feet. The square is dotted with a shopping haven - you’d get a blend of good food and great things for a reasonable price. There is an area that serves pedestrians in this piazza, with charming trees to provide you shade as well as ample seats for you to rest your feet and people-watch the minutes away. If you’re up to exploring later on, pick up where you left off at the Church of Gesu e Maria just around the corner.

Another Catholic landmark in Foggia that mustn’t be missed, with ancient architecture and artistry draping its walls.
