Did you know the Dead Sea (aka Salt Sea) is actually a huge salty lake that borders Palestine, the western region of Israel and the eastern area of Jordan? Along the prestigious hotel strip and near the Ein Tchelet shopping mall is the perfect shoreline called Ein Bokek (Ein Boqek) named after the famous river. The Dead Sea’s main beach resort and hotel district is made of two beaches – the South and Central, both offering awesome scenery and simple amenities to tourists. It’s a well-kept beach that is not too crowded and where bonfires and pitching tents are forbidden. The unique shoreline features evaporation pools filled by the waves of the sea. Unlike nearby beaches, it has no sinkholes and receding shorelines. Enjoy the Dead Sea where floating is easy and therapeutic benefits abound. We’ve listed below all the things to do in Ein Bokek besides getting your feet wet. Try them now!

1. Float on the Dead Sea waters (from USD 38.0)

There are shops nearby that sell the popular mineral-filled mud that you can rub all over your body and rinse when you get into the water. The healing properties of both the mud and the water are the cure for chronic diseases like psoriasis, respiratory ailments, and arthritis. Swimming in the Dead Sea is free and suitable for all ages and you can also join a tour group that will take you to the north side of the beach where the private beach area is perfect for photo opportunities and an afternoon swim.

Put on your best hiking shoes and explore the tranquil beauty of the Bokek River. Its water source is from the rainfall collected in the Judean mountains. It penetrates the cracks of the limestone and flows down the mountain in a perennial spring. The result is a wonderful creation of lush Tamarisk shrub flora and thick reed foliage with lots of shade and water flowing down the rocks. Beside the spring is a pillar that was once part of a fortress from the Byzantine era and the relics of a bathhouse.

The Taj Mahal restaurant is among the few free-standing restaurants along the hotel strip of Ein Bokek. It has a unique bedouin vibe with its exotic interiors. The meal is good for two and is a combination of vegetables, salads and assorted grilled meat dishes. They also boast of serving the juiciest chicken and beef paired with hummus bread.
