This museum is dedicated to archaeology and the archaeological finds in the Baden-Wurttemberg area. On the first floor, an excavation site can be seen to acquaint visitors on how excavation is done. An exhibit of stilt houses from the Neolithic era, as well as a historic ship from Lake Constance, can also be found here. Also displayed are items excavated from the Romans to the porcelain era. On the second floor, there is a lyre from the Middle Ages. The centerpiece is a demonstration of daily life in medieval Konstanz. There is a shop in the museum where souvenirs can be bought. Rheintorturm is a tower located at the side of the Rhine River. It was used as a defense tower and a gate. A wooden bridge used to go through the tower. On this bridge, people and their cargoes were able to go to the other side of the Rhine. During his visits, King Friedrich II passed through the tower. Because of this defense tower, the people of Konstanz deflected the Spaniards that attempted to attack the city. Today, this medieval tower serves as an important landmark of Konstanz. It now houses a coffee shop on the first floor and a carnival museum on the second floor. Climb to the top and enjoy the breathtaking view of the city and its surroundings.
