Near the beaches along Oak Orchard is Delaware’s lone museum dedicated to its first inhabitants and Native Americans – the Nanticoke Indian Museum. It was declared a National Historic Landmark by the Federal Government. The Nanticoke tribe also called Tidewater people, played a big role in the town’s trading history. The museum exhibits a collection of artifacts handed down from several generations of elders while some were donated. The building is made up of two exhibit rooms showing ancient tools, weapons, clothing, animal skins, and a wooden canoe used in collecting seafood and for traveling. There’s a gift shop selling authentic Nanticoke crafts.
