A key commercial centre in central Japan, Odawara has a long history dating back to antiquity, even if many of its buildings post-date the devastating Great Kanto earthquake of 1923 which levelled the city. Despite this damage, the city bounced back, and it still boasts a rich array of historical features to enjoy. Chief amongst these is the reconstructed 15th century Odawara Castle, that boasts a sizeable park with natural and man-made charms aplenty; the arrayed blossoms of spring or the amusement park facilities are sure to win the hearts of little ones. Culture vultures will also enjoy the city’s varied shrines and the classic Japanese architectural stylings of the Matsunaga Memorial Hall. And those who crave fine views will surely want to make a beeline for the slopes of Ishigakiyama Ichiya Castle Historical Park. Nearby, accommodation options include hotels in Hiratsuka as well as hotels in Fujisawa.

Read on for more on these and other top things to do in Odawara, Japan.
