Regina is not only the capital city of Saskatchewan, Canada, but it also serves as the training grounds of the famous Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. As a provincial capital, Regina is home to the Lieutenant Governor, who represents Elizabeth II in her capacity as Queen in right of the province. Also, Saskatchewan is very close to the US border, so American tourists have easy access to this Canadian province. As a result, Regina is indeed a great place to visit. Here are some of the best things to do in Regina, so all you have to do right now is book your trip, and you are free to explore the city!

1. Watch cadets in training at the RCMP Academy

The famous RCMP Academy, Depot Division, is the only place where the famous Royal Canadian Mounted Police are trained to fulfill their duties as law enforcement officials. Historically, the RCMP, or colloquially known as the Mounties, was a police force that indeed used horses. However, their horses have been relegated to ceremonial usage, but the RCMP Academy still uses an intensive training program for its cadets, which will allow them to be good cops. Feel free to watch their training, so that you understand how the Depot Division helps form its cadets to become cops who protect both Canadians (citizens and permanent residents), and tourists alike.

The Saskatchewan Legislative Building, built in 1912, is where the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan meets to craft laws in the Queen’s name. It is open for visitors daily, from eight in the morning, until five in the afternoon, except for holidays. Other than touring the grounds, visitors are free to go to the session hall to watch the Legislative Assembly discuss bills, either proposed by Ministers of the Government or the other members of the Assembly. Also, sessions include a time allotted for questions, where Ministers can be questioned by the Opposition or the other members of the Assembly. You might even witness the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan (acting in the Queen’s place, since she is normally in London) grant Royal Assent to bills, which then become law. As a result, the Legislative Building is really a great place to visit.

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is THE place to visit for fans of natural history because it has specimens of animals and plants dating from the time of the earliest fossils. However, the main attraction of this museum is Scotty the T-Rex, whose skeleton is the largest Tyrannosaurus skeleton ever discovered. The museum is also a place for people who love history and heritage, because it has exhibits dedicated to the First Nations and the treaties they signed, thus, they are able to present their side of history, unlike the common notion of Canadian history, which is the history of British North America and the peaceful struggle to attain autonomy from Westminster. Due to this, it can be said that the Royal Saskatchewan Museum is a great place to learn more about Canada.

The beautiful Presbyterian and Methodist Knox-Metropolitan United Church, or Knox-Met, for short, is a church belonging to the United Church of Canada, which is a merger of three separate Protestant traditions, namely the Presbyterian, Methodist, and Congregationalist. However, it originated as a Presbyterian and Methodist place of worship, before their merger with the Congregationalists in 1925. As a result, it is part of the Low Church evangelical tradition, which emphasizes simplicity in worship, as opposed to the High Church tradition which is more similar to the Catholic tradition. As a result, the Church’s interior is very simple, suitable for Congregational and Presbyterian worship. If you are not a member of the United Church of Canada, don’t worry, since the services of the Church are open to the public. Thus, if you are interested in religion or culture, Knox-Met is the place for you to stop by!
