Torun Zoo is located on the fringes of the city and was founded in the 18th century. This small zoo has lived through ups and downs including World War II. Known for its famous gingerbread, this museum is located in the old part of town. You can participate in an interactive show to learn the nuances of making traditional gingerbread. Opened in 2008, this center is devoted to contemporary art. Apart from the displays and exhibits, the center conducts seminars and lectures on a regular basis. It also hosts educational activities to acquaint the younger generation with the different facets of contemporary art. 6. Discover the city's secrets at the Regional Museum in Torun
Situated in an excellent location, this museum is in the historic Old Town of Toruń. It became a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. 8. Discover the unique history behind Toruń Cathedral
Toruń Cathedral is also known as Saint Catholic Cathedral John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, and it is a great place to revel in Gothic beauty. The baptismal font has seen some very important figures baptized, and there is lots of information for you to learn more about the building. The wall paintings are from the 14th to 15th century and they have been kept in excellent condition. The building itself is visible everywhere in Toruń, and it is seen as a precious landmark. 10. Explore the fascinating Teutonic Castle ruins
This is one of the oldest buildings that still stand in Toruń. Although now in ruins, the castle was originally built in the mid 13th century along the River Vistula. Located near the border, this castle was very important, and as such had lots of heavy defense and attacking systems. Today, you can still clearly see the immense layout of the castle as the external walls have been preserved. Many other areas of the castle were blown up. And, if you read about history, you’ll learn more about a dragon which supposedly hid in the castle in 1746.

11. Take a tour of the House Under the Star
Also known as Star House, this historic building has been rebuilt many times over the centuries and, as such, it is a great display of evolving architecture. It is known as one of Poland’s best-preserved patrician houses. Nowadays, the building is home to a number of Eastern arts and handicraft exhibitions. The first permanent exhibition on the premises opened its doors in 1970. Some of the objects now included in the exhibition are over 3,000 years old. Guests can also enjoy a stroll through the oriental-style garden.

12. Enjoy a walk around the Medieval defensive walls and towers
Toruń, as we know, was an important site to defend and as such, there remains the defensive walls and towers. In fact, Toruń sits behind a double-defense wall and there were three distinct units: the Old Town, the New City, and the Teutonic Castle. Originally, the walls consisted of 54 fortified towers, 11 gates, and 2 barbicans. Today, explorers can visit the remaining nine towers and three gates. You’ll be able to see the unique design of the walls and enjoy the walk around the town. It’s worth noting that the interiors of many are not open to visitors.

13. Marvel at The Leaning Tower in Toruń
The most famous of all of the defensive walls and towers is the Leaning Tower of Torun. You may be wondering why it is famous, and why it has such a nickname. The Leaning Tower was built as part of the city fortification system in the 15th century, during which time it was (obviously) straight. However, due to the design of the building and the land on which it stood, it tilted a grand total of 146 cm (4.8 feet) off the perpendicular on the side of the street. It has since stabilized since its initial tilt. Nowadays, the inside holds the Municipal Institution of Culture Toruń.
