Stroll along New Brighton Promenade and be greeted by one of its most iconic landmarks. Fort Perch Rock stands proud as a former defence fort installed in the 1820s to protect the port of Liverpool. Designed with 18 guns and ample area for over 100 officers plus adequate provisions, the fort was built with red sandstone blocks atop sandstone rocks. It was also known as the “Little Gibraltar of the Mersey” where ships sailed past the Rock Channel. Today, Fort Perch Rock is a grand building that features permanent maritime and aviation-based museum displays.

An architectural wonder in Wallasey, the Kingsway Mersey Tunnel, Ventilation tower stands tall as sky-high concrete towers alongside River Mersey. Built in 1971, the tunnel features a brutalist architectural design and amazes visitors with its grand main central tower with two air takes on each side. The ventilation tower was designed with powered ventilation to move huge volumes of air in and out of the tunnel whilst the lower half of the tunnel today, carries broadband cables between Liverpool and Wirral. Fully functional and amazing to explore, there are private tours available to see the original control room and giant ventilation fans.

It was built from items found on the beach by local artists, Frank Lund and Major Mace who brought the famed pirate ship to life. Attracting “pirates” from all over the world, The Black Pearl features tall masts with pirate flags and wooden hull. A great play area for kids, this spot is perfect to capture the spectacular sunset along the beach.

4. Explore the history of the "Dome of Home"

Built in 1932 to 1935, the church features a green dome, lovingly named “The Dome of Home” by the local people.
