Vieste is known as the ‘capital’ of Gargano and located at Pizzomunno cliffs between two sweeping sandy beaches. 2. Spiaggia di Vignanotica
Vignanotica beach is absolutely one of the tourists’ favorite beaches in Vieste. Surrounded by a wall of bright white limestone cliffs, Vignanotica beach offers a pebble beach with many beautiful caves carved by the sea. The water is blue, there are some waves and the sand is soft. So many people enjoy it, so it can get very busy on Sundays. But it’s still worth the visit if you’re in Vieste.

3. Historic walking areas; Borgo Antico di Vieste

Borgo Antico is one of the famous tourist places in Vieste. People gravitate here for that little bit of relaxation, to explore the streets and do some shopping. It has a huge variety of shops, galleries and a range of dining options to suit everyone’s taste of food, especially pizza, along the way. There are many restaurants here, where you can have dinner, or a simple and quick snack. You can also buy take-out pizza and a beer nearby.

4. Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta
Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is a beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral in Vieste. It was built as a dedication to the Assumption of Mary. It was built in Apulian Romanesque style and has a basilica plan with a nave and two aisles. The bell tower was rebuilt in Baroque style in the 18th-century after the old one collapsed. This cathedral is a must-see when in town.

5. Museum of Malacology

Museum of Malacology in Vieste finds its origins from the passion of its owners for travels and for shells. In the beginning there were only 4,600 specimens but nowadays the collection counts 12,500 from all over the world. In addition to the exhibition of shells, there is also a section dedicated to sea fossils, some of which come from Africa, Madagascar and Morocco.

6. Trabucco: a Gargano traditional fishing cabin

Trabucco is an old fishing machine and traditional fishing cabin that can be found along the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia. These machines were built at seashores over the rocks on robust wooden piles on which rests a wooden platform. By visiting the Gargano fishing cabins, you will definitely have an incredible fishing experience.

8. Chianca Amara
Vieste was attacked by the pirate Dragut Rais in 1554. During that time, an estimated 7,000 people were imprisoned and about 5,000 people including women and children were killed inhumanely. They were repeatedly tortured and beheaded on “Chianca Amara” or “bitter rock.”

9. The Vieste Lighthouse
The lighthouse of Vieste was built in 1867 on the cliff of Santa Eufemia. Besides issuing three light beams every 15 seconds, it is located in a strategic position for the navigation routes of the Adriatic Sea.
