Momoji manju is one of the most popular souvenirs in Hiroshima because of its unique maple leaf design. The original version of this small maple-leaf shaped cake is filled with mashed sweet bean paste, created by the Yamadaya Company in Miyajima town in 1932. While the traditional flavour remains a top favourite, many new filling flavours like cheese cream, custard cream and powdered tea-flavoured cream are now introduced to inject some novelty into this delicacy that is over a century old.
