Boiling Springs is a small town in central Spartanburg County in South Carolina. Its name derives from two springs located in the heart of the city. It was once quite the attraction, especially around the 1700s, when people would travel from afar to watch geysers shoot up into the air. Its bubbling became gentler over the years, but it continued boiling up to as recently as 1990. Once the surrounding land began to be developed, the water became still. A small community park was built around it after it was cleaned and dug out. Today, the spring has started to boil again.
