Formerly, Mex was a municipality of the district of Saint-Maurice in Valais, Switzerland. However on January 1, 2003, Mex merged into the municipality of Saint-Maurice. This entire area of Mex is part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites that implements the Federal Law on the Protection of Nature and Cultural Heritage. An example of these sites is The Abbey of Saint-Maurice which is overlooking the city for about 15 centuries now and the Scex Forts and Cindey Forts, which unveil hidden military works.
