Home to 3,700 animals of more than 650 different species and subspecies, animal lovers are bound to go wild. The number one zoo in the world just hit its big 100 and continues to contribute in creating lifelong memories for all its visitors. At the San Diego Zoo, you can choose from feeding giraffes, to flying over the vicinity with the Skyfari Aerial Tram to enjoy picturesque views, or for the younger fans, a sleepover at the zoo!
The Kangaroo bus is a hop-on-hop-off bus that makes stops all through the park as is included in the admission price. This is important because they will take you to where you need to go so you do not have to walk through the whole park. Make sure you take advantage of those bus stops. The wildlife you can see here, you can’t see anywhere else, making this zoo something to see when you come to San Diego.
For those who need to balance out the animal overdose, have no fear! The zoo is situated within the famous Balboa Park, where you can find numerous museums and beautiful gardens, making this area a two-in-one package for both culture and animal enthusiasts.

Scenic drives and California are two things that just seem to be synonymous (you can't visit one without seeing the other). While the 59-Mile Scenic Drive offers views of everything there is to see in San Diego, you also can't go wrong with a drive up Highway 1. While the 59-Mile Scenic Drive is confined to San Diego, Highway 1 is one of the ultimate scenic coastal drives with beautiful ocean views in the entire world!

13. Explore the tide pools at Point Loma
Located at the tip of Point Loma, the tide pools allow you to get up close and personal with the marine life during low tide. It is an interactive way for kids to learn and care about the wildlife, as touching any creatures requires gentleness and respect for their habitat.
These tide pools are the most comprehensive in San Diego County and are a popular destination for a classroom field trip. A vehicle is required to visit the lower area of the park and sole gripping shoes are recommended for a walk in the tide pool.
However, tide pools are tricky when it comes to predicting the tides. At Cabrillo National Monument, you can call directly at (619) 557-5450, extension 0, to enquire about the best time to visit the pools.
Tip from Trip101 local expert
Visiting the tide pools at Cabrillo National Monument is one of my favorite activities. There are always so many ocean creatures to look for in the tide pools but you will have the best experience at low tide. You should definitely look for my favorite animal the nudibranch. There are three types that are more frequent in the tide pools including Hermissenda, Hopkins Rose, and the Dorid Nudibranch. Also, be on the lookout for other exciting animals like octopuses and eels! If you have an underwater camera you can get great close-up photos as well!

84. Explore El Campo Santo Cemetery
Old Town is a renowned tourist attraction. With many Mexican restaurants offering curbside hand rolled tortillas it’s no wonder why many sunbaked visitors flock to the streets of Old Town to experience local “authenticity”. But down the street from the pueblo looking market on San Diego Avenue rests the historical burial ground El Campo Santo.
These sandy gravesites are often left to sit quietly, as many of your locals and traveling tourists eagerly pass by the historical landmark or crowd the numerous gift shops selling over-priced trinkets from south of the border. Enjoy the tranquility of the cemetery and note the preserved western identity that’s endured for over a century. Even with the passing crowd on the nearby streets, you’ll find that these gravesites bode a certain ghostly aura.
Some claim to have felt the cold presence of spirits, but for all its wonderfully creepy vibes El Campo Santo offers a relaxed setting for your wandering mind and the dead.
