Nowadays, there are several hotels in Surabaya that are adjacent to big shopping malls, like Hotel Ciputra in Ciputra World, and Hotel Bumi in Tunjungan Plaza. People stay in this kind of hotel because it is convenient. Shopping and entertainments are just a few steps away from the hotel lobby. However, on weekends no hotels in town can beat the Town Square (TS) Suites hotel. Located inside the area of Surabaya’s only roofless mall named Surabaya Town Square, there are the widest selections of top notch restaurants, cafes, and bars for you to choose! You will find a large performance stage (named the Atrium) in the mall’s center where there is always something interesting performed on weekends.

For breakfast, I would recommend their California sushi rolls. The fillings include crab stick and avocado with sprinkles of salmon egg called masago, and are very tasty!
In fact, if you stay for two consecutive nights (Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday nights), you will get a dinner voucher for one at the hotel cafe! TS cafe serves local and international foods (Chinese, Japanese and European). For dinner, try their sweet, meaty, as well as savory barbecued ribs, served with mashed potatoes, steamed corn, and green beans! This dish is another big plus you can have by staying here on the weekends!
A room with a hot tub
The rooms are large (4mx5m), but the private bathroom is even larger! Open the bathrooms sliding door and you will see two different sections. The one closer to the bedroom is for showering, and has a dressing table, while the other one has a toilet and another shower. The hot tub, which is a high-tech bathtub that uses water jet technology to create bubbles and massage your body, is placed very close to the bed making it possible for you to watch TV from inside the tub! There is also a mini bar in the room, and surprisingly everything inside is free! Inside is a can of Pocari Sweat (a tonic beverage), Bintang beer (local beer), Coca Cola, and some snacks like peanuts and chocolate bars. Unlike most hotels in the city, the internet connection in all rooms is superb! Wi-Fi connection is fast in all of the rooms.
See a concert from your room
On weekends, there are always performance shows such as concerts and fashion shows on the Atrium stage, which is visible from some of the hotel rooms. While everyone else has to bear with the crowd for the show, especially when it’s a well-known Indonesian artist, you’ll have the privilege of watching from your air-conditioned room! You can also bring a pair of binoculars for an even better view of the performances offered!
City view
If you can’t stand the noise during the weekend, you can book a room at the back part of the hotel, away from the stage. Instead of the view of the stage and mall, you can enjoy the view of west Surabaya from your window. From here, it’s a great idea to enjoy the moments when the sun disappears behind the tall buildings in the city.
A great deal for a hotel with five star amenities
Although TS Suites doesn’t have a swimming pool, the luxurious amenities offered make this hotel deserve a five-star rating. TS Suites is actually one of the few hotels in the city that offer an in-room jacuzzi! While at other luxurious hotels rates usually start at around 100 USD, in here you can have a room with jacuzzi, and the bonus facilities like free cinema and massage for 75 USD. What a good deal!
