Pamukkale
Contributed by Tour Guide, Rose TheGuide
When visiting Turkiye, Pamukkale is a must! The city can be seen from the closest town, Denizli, located around 20 km (12 mi) away. The name “Pamukkale” translates to ‘cotton castle’ in Turkish. The Turkish call it the cotton castle as its white terraces resemble the cotton plantations that are common in central Turkey. The city gets over 2 million visitors per year and it’s also one of Turkey’s most-visited attractions. In 1988, Pamukkale, together with Hierapolis, was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are 17 hot water springs in the area, with the waters at a temperature between 35°C (95°F) and 100°C (212°F). It is said that Cleopatra once swum in Pamukkale’s Sacred Pool, giving it the name Cleopatra’s Pool.
