As a recent graduate, I’ve been organizing and reviewing my bucket list, or as I like to call it, my wanderlist. While it’s a basic list categorized by region, domestic or international, I also try to subcategorize by “type of adventure.” Will I be lounging on a beach sipping coconut water or even better, piña coladas? Or will I be lacing up my sneakers to start a 5-kilometer (3-mile) inclined hike just so I can zip line back down? Or, will I be in the heart of downtown embracing the food and nightlife while the city lights shine all around me?

While for many destinations I’m easily able to distinguish the type of vacation the locale will lend itself to, Boulder, Colorado proves to be a difficult one to box. With the snowcapped Rocky Mountains on one side, the picturesque Flatirons on another, and a lively downtown right in the middle it’s hard to figure out which box Boulder falls into. Not to mention, it’s known as one of America’s foodie towns. Even though it might be hard to figure out what your vacation should be, don’t fret on where to stay. Keep reading to see some of the best vacation rentals you can find in Boulder, each with its own charm and attraction, and maybe like me, you’ll just give Boulder its own box.

We handpicked these listings carefully, considering (wherever possible) Superhost status, recent guest reviews, location, accommodation type, prices, availability of dates, decor, and amenities. The image galleries get refreshed with the latest updates regularly. They were last updated on July 09, 2022.

1. Artist's retreat on Boulder Creek (from 292 USD)

The owners call this quaint guest house an “artist’s retreat on Boulder Creek,” and it definitely holds up to its name. However, this rental isn’t just for those looking for a creativity-inspiring sanctuary. The guest house is actually only five minutes from the Pearl Street Mall and the University of Colorado. The Vrbo rental is listed for just one bedroom, but you can email the owners to get a special deal on the second and third bedrooms as well, making it the perfect getaway for a large group.

5. Victorian apartment in lower Arapahoe (from USD 90)

This garden level apartment (first floor only) was first built in the 1890s, but don’t worry, it’s been restored and renovated. It features one bedroom and one bathroom, can sleep three and is a great location to make a relaxing trip to Boulder. Although it is still close to all the main attractions (three blocks from the Boulder Creek Path and seven blocks from the Pearl Street Mall), the location gives off a more private vibe, which is great for those looking to see Boulder but also to relax in the serenity of nature!

7. The artful abode: Vacation retreat (from USD 1346)

This vacation rental is the epitome of luxury and definitely holds up to the steep price. The “artful abode,” as tastefully named by the owners, is located close enough to downtown Boulder to feel a part of the city scene, but far enough away to experience the peace that Colorado nature has to offer. This vacation retreat was strategically designed to allow maximal natural light without compromising on mountain views or room aesthetics. While you may not want to leave the main floor or even the outdoor deck that has its own garden and grilling area, my favorite space is the rooftop deck with an astroturf floor and comfy seating. It’s the perfect place to relax with friends and family and watch the sun set over the skyline.
