Founded in 1884, the picturesque city at the southernmost point of South America was once a missionary base and a penal colony that has transitioned to a tourist city with an international airport and a port to the Antarctic. The scenic landscapes around the city with the ending sections of the Andes host a base for outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing and cruises to the Antarctic.
