Fredericksburg is fondly called by its Old German residents as Fritztown. It is a city established in 1846 and named after the prince of Prussia, Prince Frederick. The town has a strong German influence and it is evident with the language they use (Texas German) as well as their way of living (which involves lots of food, wine, music and the outdoors). Located in the eastern-center of Gillespie County, it is 115 kilometers (70 miles) to the north of San Antonio and 125 kilometers (78 miles) to the west of Austin. It has a rich, rugged mountainous terrain that is perfect for farming. The Fredericksburg-Stonewall area is popularly known as Texas’ peach capital. This location is also the tourist’s jump off point when they want to visit the wineries located in Texas hill country. Golf and cycling are some of their major outdoor sports and tourist attractions. If you would want to experience the Texas farm life for a change, do visit Fritztown. Aside from a lot of polka and live country music, you’ll find stately farm homes like the ones listed below that will make your stay a remarkable experience. Albert’s Alsatian is among the most important historical buildings in Fritztown. Former President Bush sought out this lodging when he visited this town.
