Referred to as the “City Above the City,” Ano Poli translates to Upper Town, and that is where you’ll find this intriguing neighborhood: in the northern part of Thessaloniki around the town’s acropolis. One of the earliest districts in the city, Ano Poli showcases Ottoman and Byzantine-era architecture and oozes a lot of bygone-era ambiances. From the narrow, stone-paved streets to the remnants of the original city walls, this neighborhood is the place for you if you want to explore some of the oldest sections of Thessaloniki. Churches and monasteries are plentiful, and this part of the city is known for its artistic types. If you love an atmosphere of eclectic, bohemian flair, you’ll love Ano Poli.

Ano Poli is about 500.9 km (311.2 mi) away from Athens or 5 hours and a half away by car.

If you seek an energetic nightlife, then Ladadika is a top spot to explore. Located in the western side of Thessaloniki, near the city’s port, Ladadika is named after the many olive oil shops that inhabited the neighborhood long ago, during the Ottoman occupation. It was once a thriving commercial hub until the Great Fire of 1917 where more than 50 percent of the city was destroyed. Several decades later, Ladadika underwent a revitalization. Today, the pedestrian-friendly neighborhood is the center of a burgeoning entertainment scene filled with shopping venues, inviting cafes, lively bars, and trendy eateries. It is the ultimate crowd pleaser for locals and tourists and is just a five-minute stroll away from Aristotle Square.

Ladadika is 500.6 km (311.1 mi) away from Athens or 5 hours and 21 minutes away by car.
