As the leading amusement park in India, Wonderla Holidays Limited is a favorite among locals as well as tourists. The amusement park is open all year, and has three locations throughout India in Kochi, Bangalore (Bengaluru), and the newest one that has just opened this year (2016) in Hyderabad. One of the great things about Wonderla is that the company tries hard to give back to the community.

Caring about the safety and hygiene of their land as well as water rides, they maintain strict safety standards as provided by OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety). Since India is known for its high population and lack of forest areas, Wonderla has also planted over 2,000 trees in their parks. Let’s explore what this amusement park has to offer, and the great ways to beat the heat this summer in Bangalore!

A new ride & old favorites

When you visit this amusement park in Bangalore, you will be amazed at the rides available that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. All-together there are 61 land and water based rides to choose from, spread out over 82 acres (33.18 hectares) of land. Recoil is the newest roller coaster to be introduced at the park, and is India’s first backwards looping roller coaster!

There are two ramps that take you to a height of 131 feet (40 meters) before soaring at a speed of 48.70 miles (80 kilometers) per hour! This thrilling, backwards experience is like none other, and has been a huge hit. The Dragon Ride is another interesting experience where you can ride through an old ‘haunted’ mansion. The extreme darkness paired with the computer generated images and spooky props, really make this a fun and adventurous option, especially during the evening!

There’s even an XD Max that incorporates fun 3D adventure films with physical effects, such as seat movement, water splashing on you, and wind blowing your hair. It’s a great ride for adults and children.

Thrilling rides for all ages

Adults can also experience the thrilling rides that include the Flash Tower that is not recommended for those afraid of heights! This ride will take you, rather quickly, to a height of 131 feet (40 meters) before plummeting to the ground only to be slowed down at the very last second! For those who are not so keen on climbing so high, the Drop Zone only takes you to a height of 55.77 feet (17 meters) before suddenly dropping you to the ground.

The Mixer is one of those rides you definitely don’t want to hop on after finishing a large meal. You are constantly jerked and pulled in all different directions, just like a food mixer, and at some points you’re definitely upside down. In fact, there are many rides very similar to the Mixer that give you that feeling of being pulled, tugged, and flipped. Try out the Hurricane, the Y-Scream, and Insanity if you’re a fan of these types of rides!

There are a great deal of children’s rides available as well and the Funky Monkey, similar to the adult ride Flash Tower, is a fun favorite! It only takes the kids up about 13 feet (4 meters), but they get to experience the same feelings as the adult version. Children are also fond of the Mini Pirate Ship ride that swings them back and forth without the scare of almost being turned upside down. Mini Venice is also very unique, as it lets the kids feel like they’re on an actual gondola ride, steering their own boat through the canals of Venice.

Beat the heat in the water park

In the water park you will find a variety of wave pools, slides, and of course the relaxing Lazy River! There’s a really cool area for both adults and children called the Jungle Lagoon that covers an area of 10,000 square feet (929 square meters). It does get very crowded, but there are 5 different slides available and the floor is very soft, making it safe for kids who want to slide down faster than others.

You and your child can also enjoy racing together down the Fun Racers water slide where you’ll be given a rubber mat to slide over the bumps and lumps that this 5-person slide has to offer. If you are looking for a ride you can enjoy with another person (or solo), the Banded Kraits is really fun! You can sit alone, or with others (up to 4 people) on a rubber raft as you go through loops and twist your way down a fun filled ride into a shallow pool of water.

For the thrill seekers, there’s the Wavy and Vertical Fall, which you shoot down a steep slide that is the same height as a 6-story building. Keep in mind before climbing to the top, that this is definitely not for the faint of heart or for those afraid of heights.

Admission fees and ticket information

If you’ve managed to work up an appetite during your visit, there are plenty of delicious eateries and food stalls to choose from. If you’re looking for pure vegetarian, check out Greens; they serve up some fine North Indian cuisine as well as South Indian dosas (a type of crepe filled with a vegetable filling). For those interested in Continental favorites, such as pizza and sandwiches, definitely stop by Waves or the Pizza Corner.

There’s also a Five Star Chicken here that has delicious, crispy fried chicken strips, wings, and legs! Do be aware that food is not permitted inside the water park. Wonderla Amusement Park is open Monday through Friday from 11am until 6pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays it stays open until 7pm. Regular tickets for an adult cost 1,150 INR (17.29 USD) each, and fast track tickets are 2,300 INR (34.59 USD). For children who are between the height of 90 – 140 cm, a regular ticket is 920 INR (13.83 USD), and a fast track ticket is 1,840 INR (27.67 USD).
