When you think of the city of Philadelphia, few things come to mind. You may be fantasizing about cheesesteaks and street art, but Downtown Philadelphia has much more than meets the eye.

The whole family will love it!

While in Philly, be sure to take a cliche stroll through Love Park. You may even want to stop and snap a few photos next to the LOVE sign itself. The park is very well maintained and has a very friendly and inviting vibe. Filled with fountains and playing children, this park is a place the whole family can enjoy. Grab some local grub and have a picnic or go on a cute and romantic date. It’s central location makes it a great first stop when visiting the city.

All fun and games

Just steps away from the Love Park, is the Park of Lost Board Games. This abstract park has recently become a hub for skateboarders and young people alike. Its quirky and youthful atmosphere will make even the most uptight tourist crack a smile and feel a sense of nostalgia. Take a picture by the giant domino set or play a pretend game of Bingo with your kids. Everyone will enjoy this casual hangout spot in the city of brotherly love.

Get lost in the city’s architecture

For the history buff in the group, there is an abundance of historical sites and monuments to get you lost in the 18th Century. A very obvious monument is the famous Liberty Bell, located on 6th St & Market St., directly on the Independence Mall. Take in the history at your own leisure, or you can opt for a guided tour. While in the area, don’t forget to take a stroll past Independence Hall, an ode to America’s founding fathers and the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence.

Have no fear, Ben is here

At any location in the city, look up and see if you can spot the Benjamin Franklin Statue. It sits atop Philadelphia’s City Hall, a breathtaking architectural work of art. Ben sits over a clock tower, and if you are lucky you can see him shining through a spotlight, casting a Ben-shaped shadow in the sky.

Take a stroll down market street to do some shopping and pick up a cheesesteak at Steve’s Prince of Steaks. The locals recommend always going for the “Wiz” as opposed to traditional cheese. “Wiz” refers to artificial or processed cheese. Don’t let the name fool you, the right kind of cheese can make or break a Philly! If you are not a fan of the Philly, have no fear. There is an abundance of local bakeries and sandwich shops that can accommodate even the pickiest of eaters.
