Kofun (megalithic tumuli constructed between 3rd and 7th century) have always had followers among fans of archaeology and history, but lately their popularity among young female tourists is increasing rapidly. With special events such as the public display of a wall painting of Kitora Tumulus from Asukamura, Nara prefecture, in Tokyo National Museum, or the initiative to have the Mozu Kofun Group in Sakai city, Osaka, registered as a UNESCO heritage, the popularity of Kofun tombs has increased a lot. In Nara prefecture a Kofun-shaped cake offered in one café has become very popular.

Visit the Gorgeous Lotus Road in the Ancient Capital of Nara
Did you know there’s a road that takes you through lotus gardens of the ancient capital of Nara, conveniently known as the Lotus Road? The lotus is a sacred flower in Buddhism, resembling the Buddhist Pure Land (Sukhavati), and is well suited to the summers in Nara, where Buddhism has flourished for hundreds of years. Our point of departure is this Lotus Road, which connects three temples in western Nara City. There is no better place to experience the subtle grace of the lotus flowers and get close to the world of the Buddha than at Kikoji Temple. Let’s go!

Nausicaa’s golden plain! Around the nature and hot springs in Nara’s Soni highland
About 2 hours by car from Osaka or 3 hours from Nagoya, in the north-east part of Nara prefecture is Soni village, a rich natural village which is part of Muro-Akame-Aoyama Quasi-national Park. Soni highland stretches there with its golden grass plains which resemble the final scene in the popular anime move "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind".
