1. Explore the outdoors at Sesquicentennial State Park

Just a thirty-minute drive outside of Lugoff, Sesquicentennial State Park is a natural sanctuary that offers visitors a place to fish, boat, hike, and camp. You’ll pay 5 USD as an entry fee at the gate – then choose to spend the day relaxing or take a longer camping trip in the state park.

The thirty-acre lake is ideal for bass fishing and canoeing, kayaking. and paddle boating. You can rent a canoe, kayak, or paddle boat for 5 USD and hour or 15 USD a day.

Birdwatchers and geocachers also enjoy the park’s recreational facilities. Migrating warblers and waterfowls are some favorite types of birds. Geocaching, the recreational activity of hunting for and finding a hidden object by means of GPS coordinates posted on a website, is a popular pastime among hikers, and there are several geocaches located on the park’s property. There’s also a mountain bike trail for biking enthusiasts.

While you’re in Lugoff, don’t miss the Kershaw County Farmers Market! Just ten minutes outside of Lugoff, the farmers market brings together local vendors from all across Kershaw County.

The Farmers Market is open weekly on Saturdays from 8am-12pm. Since 2005, the farmers market has been drawing visitors for miles to stock up on fresh produce, meat, and handmade items. The produce offered depends on the growing season and varies from week to week. Farmers, gardeners, greenhouse owners, soap-makers, carpenters, and coffee roasters come together to provide excellent, hand-crafted products.

The farmers market wants to make sure you know they will be open rain or shine!

3. Feed giraffes at the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden

Located just a thirty-minute drive from Lugoff, the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden is ranked as one of the top four zoos in the country by TripAdvisor and it is waiting for you to visit and explore! You may have seen the zoo on HGTV, as the garden was featured on one of their programs.

The zoo features over 2,000 different species of animals. One of the most popular attractions is the giraffe feeding exhibit, where you’ll be able to feed the stunning, 20 foot (6 meter) tall creatures, out of your hand.

Admission is 15.95 USD for adults and 13.50 USD for kids. You can also purchase zipline tickets for 80 USD.

4. Go off-roading at Carolina Adventure World

Built in 2007, Carolina Adventure World is an outdoor park spanning 2600 acres (1052 hectares) of land and offers over 100 miles (161 kilometers) of trails, meant to accommodate ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. There are also horse trails and disc golf courses available in the outdoor park.

If you’re an experienced rider, feel free to bring your own equipment, but Carolina Adventure World is also designed for beginner riders to “get their feet wet.” You’ll be able to rent an ATV or dirt bike of your choice and hit the trails. If you’re bringing your own equipment, you can gear up for a full day of riding with a 32 USD day pass or rent ATVs or dirt bikes with prices starting at 70 USD during the weekdays (you’ll have to pay more for a weekend ride.)

If you want to make a weekend of it, plan to camp at Carolina Adventure World’s campsites or cabins. Campsites are just 25 USD a day.

5. Visit Gorget Distilling Co

Located right inside Lugoff, Gorget Distilling Co. is the perfect place to grab a drink and unwind. Founded in 2015, the distillery is named after a piece of armor used during the Revolutionary War and seeks to draw from the deep historical ties to the Lugoff area.

The grains used in the rum, vodka, whiskey, and bourbon produced at the distillery are sourced from local farms such as Boykin Mill, and they strive to use the best ingredients from the area to craft fine drinks. Don’t miss the black cherry rum, a unique drink, crafted at the distillery.
